KO PHANGAN MOBILE CLINIC UPDATE 🐾
We just wrapped up a 2-day blitz in the village of Haad Rin on Koh Phangan 💚
This was a joint initiative by ARRI - Aerial Recon & Recovery Initiative and Suncliff Garden Resort — and what a difference teamwork makes!
In the past, we haven’t exactly loved our experiences on this island — local politics, personality clashes, and a lot of talk with little action made things… well, challenging.
But this time? Completely different! 🙌
The community was ready and waiting. As soon as we arrived, locals had already set traps in key hotspots, provided us with a fantastic workspace, and jumped in as amazing volunteers.
Early surveys estimated around 30–50 cats needing sterilization, and with only 22 traps we thought we might do 20 cats a day — maybe even have a bit of a quiet one.
Boy, were we wrong!
We were inundated from day one — over 20 cats trapped by the ARRI team before lunch, and locals kept turning up with more. We hated turning anyone away, but with some complex cases, we ended up working until 9 p.m.
We started early the next morning and capped numbers so we could get back to Samui (and let the ARRI volunteers go on their way also).
All up, we sterilized 75 cats, the majority being strays — meaning countless kittens won’t be born into a life of suffering. 💚
Given the need, we’re already planning our return. Next time, we’ll run a more detailed stray survey and set up community registration to make sure no cat is left behind.
Mobile clinics are additional costs on top of our normal clinic operations — but they’re absolutely life-saving.
