UPDATE ON THAR CHAW. 🤍 The sweet paralyzed boy cat who came to us from our monk friend last week. We’re now suspecting his abdomen was possibly run over by a car, given the internal mess shown on scans.

The neurologist found asymmetric post-paresis - no deep pain sensation in the left hind leg, but it’s still present in the right. Possible causes include spinal cord disease (myelopathy), a spinal tumor, or fibrocartilaginous embolism (FCE, a type of blood vessel blockage). An MRI will be needed for a clear diagnosis, but they’re starting with supportive care like fluids for circulation and antibiotics to fight infection.

His initial belly X-ray looked unusually cloudy, suggesting inflammation or fluid buildup, which makes us suspect trauma like being run over. A quick ultrasound showed inflamed abdominal fat, a small amount of free fluid, a bright pancreas, an active spleen, enlarged kidneys (possibly inflamed), and gut changes hinting at enteritis. A full specialist ultrasound will be needed soon, plus a pancreatic lipase test to check the pancreas properly.
