More I.O.W. - ramblings from a hectic Royal Alloy weekend :
# Big shout out to the VFM site marshals for scooter display oversight. We purposely left the lights on Friday night around the scooters on display. Big Gaza told me Saturday morning a good number of the shy Lammi and Vespa 2 stroke owners were over having a good old look at the different models with their i-phone torches on the Friday night ! !! 🤭.. A bit of sneaky marketing 😏 strategy..
Some were brave and came over to chat about these fangle dangled 4 stroke things when we were open.
Of course we all know that many have repeatedly sworn never to go near an auto with a 10ft barge pole for years.
Secretly I can tell you at least 2 of them purchased and several took away brochures and price lists .
Is the tide turning? Not quite yet !But I walked the carpark Saturday afternoon and 25% of the scooters were autos.
We had some brilliant interactions on our stand . It was manic busy and crazy tiring.
Sunday afternoon after the ride out was a crazy laugh. Lots of different scooter groups milling around the display. Deals being done left right and center.
Here’s a few memorable little ditties from the weekend .
A guy returns from a test ride , He was gone a good 45 mins . I’m thinking where the hell ???
Anyway he eventually returns . ( Me ) where have you been mate ? Did you like it ??
His Answer - Yes blinding mate, took it back to my hotel in Ryde - needed a s..t !!! …
( Me) The 350 scooter ??
Him - Yes I’m Deffo getting one for next season, give me a brochure & stuff.

One SF follower said -ffs steve I’ve been over 3 times now you’re always bloody busy. Get one of them ticket machines next year with numbers on…!

The guy who says - Yes I want it but need the Mrs to choose colour,
(Me) Really ! You man or mouse ??
Him - You don’t know her steve and walks off . Five mins later he returns - no Mrs in toe . Yeah you’re right - I’ll have the red !!

A big lad comes over - Are you steve ??
Me - Yes - shakes my hand .
Just sneaked over while the wife’s in the beer tent , I’m not allowed to talk to you -She thinks you’re some kind of wizard that takes all my money !!
(Me) Sorry about that -

Him - steve jones .
( Me ) Oh ok - yes you’ve got a crystal cracked kit,seat and RK coming to you.
Him - s**t here she comes - run !! !!she was lovely, I just got a little warning that’s all !!

Then there’s the 3 young lads who rode down from Reading - what a pleasure to hear their stories. Ollie Mason and Dan . Suited and booted on a narly wet Saturday . If there was more youngsters like them, the scene wouldn’t be at risk of dying ..

The scooter scene has always largely been about the people in it. I’m glad I got to meet so many of you over the weekend.

I was also able to spend a good amount of time with PooleMoto dealer Steve Dibbs and Nick who were great fun.
Mark Hickman of Lukas Distribution-The tech wizard that knows how these RA’s tick. It was great to be able to swap build and manufacture frustration stories with him . He is similar in outlook to our Shep !! Which is both funny and Admittedly a bit frightening! !
Mark and Donna of MD Speed shop were a breath of fresh air and great to talk with .
The great helpful guys from Smart Speed 66 -Dave and Olympic also,
I finally got to meet and briefly chat with Adam Tasso man too.
Shazy and Jake -Scooter island were there. It’s always brilliant swapping stories of our youth with them.
The weather tried its hardest to spoil our fun but it really didn’t .
The whole I.O.W. 2026 Experience was once again a memorable one .
