3 Beaches: Pattaya, Sunrise & Sunset Beach
There are 3 main beaches on Koh Lipe: Pattaya Beach, Sunset Beach and Sunrise Beach. The first one is the most popular and has a wide variety of places to stay, drink and eat. Sunrise Beach has quite a few resorts as well, Lipe Beach Resort is located here. A small Chao Ley (Sea Gypsies) Village with some basic shops and small eateries is within walking distance. Sunset beach is the smallest beach and has only has a couple of places to stay. Take a look at our island map to get a better picture. Because of Koh Lipe's small size, it's easy to stay anywhere and go to any beach in less than 15 minutes. Chao Ley - Urak Lawoi - Sea Gypsies
Chao Ley or Urak Lawoi (Malay: Orang Laut) are an ethnic group residing on the islands of Phuket, Phi Phi, Jum, Lanta, Bulon, Koh Lipe , Koh Adang and Koh Rawi. They are known by various names, including Orak Lawoi, Lawta, Chaw Talay, Chaw Nam, and Lawoi. Although historically Chao Ley have led a nomadic lifestyle, the community on Koh Lipe has settled there decades ago. Due to the every increasing tourism the island and community have changed dramatically over the last few years. It is always appreciated if you support Chao Ley businesses whenever you have the chance. We are always interested to hear from you! Please send your enquiry to [email protected]
