Vivien, a wonderful German solo cyclist, has been cycling from Singapore to Bangkok. She arrived at my home on July 27 and had originally planned to stay for just one night. She also invited me to join her for part of her ride on July 28.
What happened next?
On the morning of the 28th, I took her to the local market, where we bought some delicious Thai food and desserts—Phad Thai Chaiya, Khanom Sod Sai, Khao Tom Mud, Khanom Khrok, and black sticky rice with taro. Then we went back home and enjoyed breakfast together.
After breakfast, we decided to cycle to Tham Khao Phlu Hot Springs, about 15 km from my home, before saying goodbye and continuing our separate journeys. Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling well that day. My body felt very weak, and I had almost no energy. We had to stop three times along the way and didn’t arrive until around 3:00 p.m. It rained until about 4:00 p.m., so it was too late for Vivien to continue her journey.
She decided to stay at my home for one more night, and my brother kindly picked us up with his pickup truck. Before heading home, he even stopped to pick a durian from his orchard for Vivien—woohoo, she’s a real durian lover!
Today, July 29, is Asalha Bucha Day. I went to Suan Mokkh in Chaiya, while Vivien left my home to continue her journey north. A little later, she realized that she had left her sunglasses in my brother’s pickup truck. I drove to my brother at his job site to get the sunglasses, and then I started searching for Vivien along the road heading north. Haha… after a while, I finally found her at beside the road near a seaside restaurant in Lamae.
What a wonderful surprise! We enjoyed lunch together before saying goodbye once again.
Vivien is such a kind, sweet, and thoughtful person. During yesterday’s ride, she never left me behind, even though I was struggling to keep up. Thank you so much for her kindness and patience. I truly appreciate it.
I hope we’ll meet again someday, somewhere in the world. Wishing you a safe, happy, and unforgettable journey all the way back home to Germany. 🇩🇪🚴♀️❤️
