In October 2023, Baan Kong opened as a (first)hostel in Mix-culture architecture on the cultural road. The history of Baan Kong Hostel
Baan Kong is a two-story cement house at 173 Sri Takua Pa Road. It was a modern house 60 years ago. The house is separated into two halves. Part 1 measures 5 meters broad by 40 meters long. Part 2 is 40 meters long and 10 meters broad. Dulyapaisan of Uthenthawai I
nstitute is the first architect, and the second is Mr. Wisut Sermsirimanon or "Kong" (Kong means Grandpa in Hokkien Chinese), who designed the house with love and vision between 1967 and 1971. Siew Ngan, "Ar Jor" (Grandma's mother in Hokkien Chinese), is the most significant person in this house's history. She purchased this old house. This marked the beginning of the Hostel's history. This house was later given to Grandma in 1942 for 6,000 baht. Grandma used to run a beauty salon out of this house. Grandpa later began a tin mining business. Improve the family's financial situation accordingly. As a result, he demolished the house. This old house was rebuilt as a new house in the same area, with more space purchased to build and expand a second half of the house. What significance does the house have for their heirs? Because both of my ancestors, Ar Kong (Grandpa in Hokkien Chinese) and Ar Ma (Grandma in Hokkien Chinese), were Hokkien Chinese-Thai, as we call them. Peranakan (Hybrid Culture), they grew and cultivated their children and grandkids in both Thai and Chinese cultures, including language, food, beliefs, and culture. As a result, we consider ourselves privileged to grasp philosophy and enjoy art and architecture. We are also grateful to our predecessors, whom we regard as benefactors. In October 2023, Baan Kong opened as a hostel to assist tourism in the Talad-Yai (aka Takuapa Old-town) neighborhood. And to create a lodging in peaceful getaway vibe with the atmosphere of historic houses loaded with the scent of civilization in Mix-culture architecture on the cultural road. Omarin Sermsirimanon
