İt is well worth making the effort to see the ancient city of Patara when it is illuminated at night. You can spend a good couple of hours exploring, especially if you follow the magical lanterns lighting the pathway to the recently restored light house.
✴️ Our top tip would be to go down to the beach late afternoon, enjoy a swim as the sun goes down and then visit the ruins. Magical.

What makes our quirky, peaceful little village a unique place to stay?
⛱️ It's proximity to Patara beach, the longest sandy beach in Turkiye and featured as one of the Mediterranean's most beautiful and unspoilt beaches.
🐢 The beach is part of a National park and the breeding ground of the endangered Caretta caretta turtles.
🌅 The sand dunes are magical offering breathtaking views and spectacular sunsets
🏟️ The ancient archaeological site of Patara lies between the village and the beach. Here you will find amongst the many fascinating Lycian and Roman ruins, the first democratic parliament building of the world ( the Lycian bouloutrion), the oldest standing light house in the world, recently renovated to its original glory at the entrance to what was once a principle harbour, a stunning Roman theatre, Roman baths and Roman streets.
🧑‍🎄 Patara was the birthplace of Saint Nicholas
🥣 The small lokantas and restaurants offer a mixture of traditional Turkish foods, fresh fish and meat dishes. All of the food is freshly cooked to order.
🏚️ All of the accommodations are run by local people and can be booked independently. No package tours in Patara. All independents.
🍹 There are a handful of bars in the village, each has its own distinct identity. Simbar is set in a beautiful garden and their speciality is hand crafted cocktails using fresh fruits from their garden. Medusa bar is known for its amazing music collection and for regular live music evenings.
☕ There are many places to get a good coffee. Aliento offers their own blend of coffee, offers ceramic workshops and is there is a beautiful collection of ceramics available for purchase.
🧿 For gifts there is a wide selection of small gift shops and market stalls selling a mixture of hand crafted and Turkish made products. Popular gifts include the Turkish boncuk/ evil eye, hamam towels, macrame decorations, kelim cushions, hand made glass earings and hand made soaps.
🌳The village is surrounded by nature. Endless walks from the door.
A holiday in Patara suits those in search of a relaxing holiday away from the crowds. A walkers haven, a beach lovers paradise and an archaeol

Do you still need a paper boarding pass in 2026??

Digital boarding passes are becoming the norm but the rules can vary depending on the airline and airport

We would advise that you check what is required before you travel.

🚝 Some airlines are fully digital.

🚝 Some airlines accept both printed and mobile passes

🚝 A few airlines only accept paper boarding passes.

🚝 Some airports are digitalised. When we travelled from Edinburgh airport in February we discovered that they are fully digitalised.

We would suggest that before travel, you download all boarding passes into your phone and also keep printed copies.

Happy travelling.
