The Story of Kalfa Palace Guest House :
We’d love to share the story of Kalfa Palace Guest House with you.
Kalfa Palace is located in one of the four sister bay-windowed houses built in 1890 by apprentices trained at the Istanbul Kalfa School, established under the architectural education of Mimar Sinan’s tradition. During the Republican era, thanks to the descendants of those who once lived here, our street was named Kalfaoğlu Street.
Kalfaoğlu Street has long been a gathering place for Kadıköy’s art lovers, surrounded by landmarks like the Süreyya Opera House (the theater and cinema of its time), the Kadıköy Open-Air Cinema (which stood where today’s multi-storey car park is), and the Kadıköy Cinema.
Our Kalfa Palace Guest House project, which began in August 2022, faced many challenges — especially legal ones — that nearly exhausted our budget. Yet, with the unforgettable support of friends, family, and volunteers who believed in our story, the restoration was completed collectively, with love and dedication. This journey became our very own “apprentice school,” teaching us everything hands-on along the way.
In a short time, we have welcomed thousands of guests, sharing the heartfelt hospitality we had always dreamed of. Many have become dear friends, now part of our lives.
Our next dream is to open an art-themed coffee shop that brings these beautiful connections together and keeps our collective spirit alive. Witnessing new friendships born there is our next adventure.
Because we are beautiful together.
