Bombardıman sonrası kasabada büyük bir katliam yaşanmış, o güne kadar görülmemiş şiddette olan bombalamalar Guernica'yı yerle bir etmişti...
Picasso’ya göre sanatçı, insanlığın ve uygarlığın en temel değerlerinin yok edilme tehlikesi ile karşı karşıya kaldığı bir savaşta kayıtsız kalamazdı...
Ve böylece en sert ..en protest savaş karşıtı..İspanya nın ağıtı..insanlığın çığlığı.. tablo ortaya çıkar..GUERNICA
