5月前半段拜台東旅遊補助所賜
途中都蘭結識了許多良緣
5/18縣府一宣告補助款項用罄
瞬間沒人再詢問訂房

先不管淡季、繳稅季、會考季、教檢季
或是大學生的期末考季
這是很現實的問題。

這讓我必須思考
未來我們下一間店開幕後
途中都蘭的下一步會是什麼？

再多老客人跟我說這裡要繼續保留
再多好客人跟我說堅持下去、加油
我都必須面對以下現實⬇️

有人把時間投入工作、有人把資金放進股市
有人選擇出國旅行、有人只想在家躺平休息

而花蓮與台東
早已不是大家唯一的選項

天氣越來越熱、氣候變遷肯定也影響了出門意願
像我現在只想關在都蘭冷氣房、完全不想跑去外縣市
甚至講一年的新竹神奇寶貝喫茶店【早點出發】都還沒出發

前幾天看到途中玉里老闆Eric發文心有戚戚焉
是火車票漲太多大家不想來？
台灣本身的觀光魅力出問題？
還是大家真的沒時間請假？
平日只能埋首工作討生活？

有時候我也會想
為什麼越來越少人願意走進玉里、都蘭這樣的小地方？

這裡沒大型商場、沒知名景點、沒滿滿的購物行程
有的只是山、海、陽光與風

只是找一間喜歡的店坐下來
只是沿著海岸散步
只是讓腦袋暫時放空

這樣的旅行
好像變得越來越奢侈了。

沒關係

你們先別急著訂房

Bo想休息了。

這個365天幾乎都亮著燈的空間
也需要喘口氣

途中都蘭乘載了太多故事
也收藏了太多人的青春與靈魂

而我想趁這段時間
去一個很遠很遠的山上

暫時離開日常
重新整理自己

等我回來吧

這段時間電話不會接
訊息慢回請見諒

願我們都能在生活裡
找到一個讓自己好好休息的地方

On My Way Dulan has been empty for four days in a row.

In early May, thanks to the Taitung travel subsidy, we met many wonderful travelers. But once the funding ended, booking inquiries almost disappeared overnight.

It could be the low season, exam season, or simply the reality that people now have more choices than ever.

Some invest their time in work.
Some invest their money in stocks.
Some travel abroad.
Others just want to stay home and rest.

Hualien and Taitung are no longer the only options.

Sometimes I wonder why fewer people choose to visit small places like Dulan and Yuli.

There are no giant malls here.
No famous landmarks.
Just mountains, ocean, sunshine, and wind.

A place to slow down.
A place to breathe.

Maybe that kind of travel has become a luxury.

For now, Bo needs a break.

This little space has carried countless stories and memories, and it deserves some rest too.

I’ll be heading into the mountains for a while to reconnect with myself.

I won’t be answering phone calls, and replies to messages may be slow.

See you when I return.

Our lovely helpers Savi & Andrea graduated today after spending a month with us 🎓
Even though I’ve gotten used to saying goodbye,
this time feels unexpectedly hard.

They were probably the helpers who enjoyed the wooden platform at On My Way Dulan the most,
and also the travelers who blended into Dulan’s rhythm of life so naturally.

Somehow, they could chill at Tuyan Monster Bar until 3 or 4 in the morning,
and still take great care of housekeeping and guest reception the next day.
As if they had truly turned this place
into part of their own everyday life.

Today, I read something written in our guestbook by 宏旻,
a solo traveler who stayed with us these past few days.
It was a quote from The Shawshank Redemption:

“Get busy living, or get busy dying.”

And suddenly, it reminded me of you two.

Not chasing desperately after something,
but truly knowing how you want to live.
Relaxing when it’s time to relax,
and still being responsible when it’s time to work.

Thank you, beautiful Savi & Andrea, for your companionship and help during this past month.
Thank you for loving Dulan,
and thank you for making May at On My Way Dulan feel so lively.

我覺得很棒

因為只有一個人去旅行
你才有機會跟其他旅人交談
交換彼此故事、分享旅行中所聞所見

你才有辦法好好靜下心來
跟自己對話、梳理自己

人生
真的還是蠻讓人不勝唏噓

為了家庭為了工作而失去自我的人大有人在
但首先你要設法讓自己快樂

這快樂不該是他人帶給你
而是你自己創造出來的

The frangipani flowers on the second-floor balcony of the hostel have started to bloom.
A sign that the vibrant summer season is quietly on its way.

Right next door is Ah-Mei’s little grocery shop,
every tiny detail carrying traces of everyday life.
Maybe it’s just that our senses have slowly been numbed by the world around us.

And perhaps that’s exactly why
we need to travel.

Over the past few days, a few lovely women have stayed at the hostel,
all traveling solo.
I think it’s beautiful.

Because when you travel alone,
you give yourself the chance to truly talk with other travelers,
to exchange stories and share the things you’ve seen and felt along the way.

Only then can you really quiet your mind,
have a conversation with yourself,
and slowly untangle what’s inside your heart.

Life…
really can feel bittersweet sometimes.

So many people lose themselves
for family, for work, for responsibilities.
But before anything else,
you have to find a way to make yourself happy.

And that happiness
shouldn’t depend on someone else giving it to you.
It should be something you create for yourself.

Your emotions should never become the responsibility
of your partner or your children.
Otherwise, the thing that slowly runs dry
will be your own soul.

恭喜大家，又走過一個農曆新年🧧

有些你以前對她很好的家人，如今🐶嘴吐不出🐘牙
有些長輩仍不改情緒勒索的言論，仗著自己是長輩。
有些人不想回家過年，選擇在歐洲、中南美洲旅行。
有些人帶著家人來途中都蘭，度過平凡溫暖的新年。

我們都在用自己的方式，
面對關係、面對成長、面對時間。

有些話語，也許不再那麼柔軟；
有些期待，仍然讓人感到壓力；
有些沉默，其實藏著努力與體諒。

但當你慢慢看懂人情冷暖後，
會發現——
能安安靜靜把自己過好，
便是人生最高境界。

外界再喧嘩，
內心仍能安放自己，
在自己的節奏裡，
穩穩地發光。

今年過年，
我特別喜歡一位來途中都蘭的媽媽說的一句話：

「人生不定，方有況味。」

生活充滿了無常、波動與不可預測
正是這種無法一眼望盡的未知與變數
賦予了生命豐富的層次與深刻體驗

在苦澀中嚐到甘甜，
在波動裡看見彼此，
那些被歲月慢慢淬鍊的心，

Congratulations to all of us for making it through another Lunar New Year 🧧

Some family members you once treated with kindness now speak without kindness in return.
Some elders still lean on emotional pressure, simply because they are “the elder.”
Some people choose not to go home for the holidays, and travel instead—to Europe, to Central or South America.
Some bring their families to On My Way Dulan, spending a simple yet warm New Year together.

We are all finding our own ways
to face relationships,
to face growth,
to face time.

Some words are no longer gentle.
Some expectations still feel heavy.
Some silences quietly hold effort and understanding.

But when you begin to truly see the warmth and coldness of the world,
you realize—
being able to calmly live your own life well
is perhaps life’s highest state of grace.

No matter how noisy the outside world becomes,
you can still settle your heart,
move in your own rhythm,
and shine steadily.

This New Year,
I especially loved something a mother who stayed at On My Way Dulan said:

“Life is uncertain—that’s where its flavor comes from.”

Life is filled with impermanence, fluctuation, and unpredictability.
It is precisely this unknowable, ever-changing nature
that gives life its layers and depth.

We taste sweetness through bitterness.
We see each other more clearly through the ups and downs.
Hearts slowly refined by time
are the ones that truly understand life’s depth.

May we—
wherever we are—
slowly become better versions of ourselves.

Wishing you peace and health,
a calm and steady heart,
and a new year filled with both effort and reward.
