/// Mi (Emeline) LIN First Solo Exhibition & Spinoff Events
After five years of living in the Netherlands and carrying around a sketchbook, Mi finally got a chance to come back to her hometown – Hualien, Taiwan – to organize an exhibition. During the preparation for this exhibition, she encountered many interesting people, who accidentally led her to organize more than just an exhibition, but a series of multi-dimensional events together with a group of professionals together, between Tainan and Hualien, as well as Taiwan and the Netherlands. Through these opportunities, she will be able to show Dutch culture through diverse sketch-related highlights.
The exhibition is named ‘Below Sea Level’; as the name suggests, the artist visits different cities and uses sketches to depict the Netherlands, a country where one-third of the land is below sea level. In the exhibition space, these sketches will be arranged according to the sea level scale, which allows visitors to navigate the daily life of the lowland cities surrounded by waves.

[From the 13th of February]
The first highlight, the mini exhibition and sketching tour, will be in Tainan! As a prelude to the opening of the main exhibition in Hualien, this part of the event will cooperate with Tainan's local art and cultural promoter – ArtdeCorner. This also serves as an echo of the time when the Dutch first landed in Tainan, Taiwan, in 1624.
[From the 22nd of February]
The second highlight returns to the main exhibition – Chang's Café in Hualien – an art exchange space managed by two generations of musicians. The space is cozy and feels like reading storybooks at home. You are all welcome to join the opening and enjoy special desserts made by the local pastry chef.
[the 28th of February]
The third highlight, we invite you to visit the home of a Dutch woman, Jany, who has been living in Hualien since decades ago. She does not only cook lovely Dutch recipes in her Jany's Pancake House but also uses it as a place to support people who are relatively unseen by society. At this event, you are invited to listen to Mi's talk about the culture of Delft blue art, learn to hand-carve the stamp of Dutch blue tiles from Yi-Chen Lee, and enjoy a Dutch afternoon.

*Unfortunately, the language of the events will be Mandarin. However, the exhibition content will be bilingual (English & Mandarin), and an English-guided tour is possible if the artist Mi is around!
