CONSERVATION IN ACTION!
The reforestation of the farmland adjacent to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest that we purchased to expand habitat for mountain gorillas (and other wildlife) is proceeding fast. Here are some pics and clips sent to me by Mushamba earlier this month. In the corner of this land is our Sahaya Rafiki guesthouse (where you are invited to stay!). With the rain and high temps, vegetation grows very fast, and as a result gorilla families are spotted every few weeks.
We are now fundraising to purchase a small strip of land next to the river, which is surrounded by land we already purchased and thus makes sense to include in our program, especially as this land is visited very frequently by gorillas. This land has a cliff with rocks and even a small cave, where Batwa pygmies used to live (I was told it was used especially for women to deliver their babies).

A big thank. you to Isaac who carved this beautiful sign that is now placed at the main road in Buhoma. To get to the guesthouse, just take the road down, as we are next to Ruhondeza lodge (which is the sign right after hours). We look forward to welcoming visitors!

Even when you don't see the gorillas 🦍🦍, there is often evidence around our guesthouse that they have been there. Apparently they love to chew on Eucalyptus trunks (we had cut down those trees 2 years ago to make place for native trees). And sometimes we notice that they made a beautiful nest in a tree.
