Recently, we opened our space for free maternal and newborn health sessions for women from the nearby community, led by visiting senior midwives Alison and Suzi from the UK. Around 100 women joined over 2 days to learn and share knowledge about newborn care, safe sleeping, and simple life-saving skills for newborns.

One of the topics discussed was sudden infant death caused by overheating, which sadly remains a real concern for many families in Uganda. By creating space for these conversations and practical demonstrations, we hope the sessions offered support, confidence, and useful knowledge to mothers and families in the community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a meaningful experience.

A rare and unforgettable sighting on today’s game drive.

Leopards are present throughout Murchison Falls National Park, but they are elusive, solitary, and incredibly skilled at staying hidden in the riverine woodlands and dense bush. Spotting one like this in broad daylight is always a special moment.

Early morning and evening game drives offer the best chances, though with wildlife, every sighting feels like pure luck and magic combined.

Here in Uganda, right on the equator, the sun rises and sets at almost the same time every day, and once it starts setting, darkness comes quickly. But in those short moments in between, the sky is never quite the same twice.

Some evenings glow orange and gold, others turn soft pink and deep blue, before the sounds of the night slowly take over along the riverbank.

Travel Update for Uganda

We understand that some travellers may have concerns following recent news about Ebola cases in Uganda.

Ebola is not an airborne disease and does not spread through casual contact. It is transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids of an infected person. Most safari travel involves direct transfers from Entebbe to lodges and national parks, with guests spending the majority of their time in open-air environments and guided wildlife areas.

At Murchison River Lodge, operations continue as normal and guests are enjoying their stays and safaris as planned. The situation is being closely monitored by Ugandan health authorities and international public health organisations, and precautionary measures are in place.

Should there be any developments affecting travel or guest stays, booked guests will be informed directly.

Just next to Murchison River Lodge, you’ll find the Mubaku Community Playground, a space for children to play, laugh, and spend time together.

The playground was funded by the lodge as part of our connection to the surrounding community, and it’s always wonderful to see it full of energy and joy.

From the riverbank to the trees surrounding the lodge, there’s always something to spot — colourful kingfishers, fish eagles, herons, bee-eaters and many more species found around the Nile and Murchison Falls National Park.

Bring your binoculars, slow down for a moment, and let nature do the rest.
