These visits are also a chance to spend time together, catch up and share a moment with the families. On this occasion, some of the widows were joined by their grandchildren — making the visits all the more special.

A rare treat on safari. 🦁

There are few wildlife encounters quite like coming across lions resting out in the open. These two were spotted during a game drive in Murchison Falls National Park, enjoying a quiet moment in the grassland.

As promised, we’re sharing a little more from our village walk through Mubaku Community.

The 1.5-hour walk takes guests through the village and surrounding fields, with a local guide sharing insights into everyday life, traditional practices, and native plants. Along the way, guests can learn about and take part in some of the activities of daily life, such as preparing firewood or making a fire for cooking. These interactions are arranged with community members beforehand, creating an opportunity to meet, learn, and share in a respectful way.

The proceeds go directly back into the community, supporting local needs and initiatives, such as purchasing materials for the recent repair of the community borehole.

Murchison River Lodge and the neighbouring Mubaku community are closely connected. Many of our team members come from Mubaku and continue to live there, while the lodge brings visitors and tourism to the area.

When a returning couple came back to Murchison River Lodge to celebrate their anniversary, our team made sure their evening was just as special. A private dinner overlooking the Nile, set up as the sun went down, made for a beautiful way to celebrate their time together.

Powerful, resilient, and always impressive to encounter, the African buffalo is one of the iconic members of Africa's Big Five. While they often appear calm as they graze or cool off in muddy wallows, they're known for being highly protective of their herd and are considered one of the continent's most formidable animals.

A muddy wallow like this isn't just a place to relax, it's an important way for buffalo to regulate their body temperature and protect their skin from biting insects.
