Our Story

Welcome to Chahafi Lake Resort; a little spot of heaven in the Kisoro region of south west Uganda. A secluded location gives you access to a sublime escape from the hustle and bustle of surrounding towns and cities, giving you chance to relax and wind down whilst exploring the wonderful nature within the area. The resort is equipped with en-suite Safarihuts with spacious rooms and comfortable beds. There is also a bar and restaurant on site, giving you options of delicious local or international dishes, supplied by the wonderfully welcoming staff. Where the resort ends, the lake begins, giving you access to swim, canoe or simply sunbathe next to a lake without the threats of bilharzia, crocodiles and hippos. A purpose built sun deck allows you to spend the day doing nothing and if you happen to get restless, the diving platform will pump some excitement back into you. For the more energetic visitors there's enough activities to keep you entertained for weeks. Swamp walks and tours around Chahafi lake, neighbouring Kayumbu lake and the hills separating Uganda from neighbouring Rwanda will satisfy your hiking needs, with mountain biking set to be introduced in the near future. A vast array of bird life will impress diehard birth watching fans as well as novices who have yet to explore the vast quantities of species. Rural village life surrounds the resort, giving you an insight into daily life in the 'real Africa'. Church visits, community walks and home visits are all available giving you a unique opportunity to experience the local culture. Local families are extremely friendly, waving to you in the streets and welcoming you into their homes. The resort is also a great transit point to a number of the regions top attractions. Transport, food and guides can be set up to a number of the surrounding volcanoes in the Virunga chain, offering you an unbeatable hiking adventure. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Queen Elizabeth Nation Park are within a short distance, with the resort offering you a relaxing break after your days of watching gorillas, chimpanzees, lions or leopards. An even shorter drive from the resort gives you the option of visiting Rwanda or Democratic Republic of Congo, with border crossings close to Kisoro. The resort also offers volunteer opportunities within the local community, working within the resort or at the local school or health centre. These opportunities offer a truly unique experience to indulge in local life whilst helping out the local people. Probably you have not been to areal rich lake with history: now is the time to come to Chahafi and we trek into action to the site that was a military outpost for both The British and the Belgians, to jealously guard what came out to be Kigezi under the British,and the cherished telegram of the Belgians not forgetting the German's tenacity over Kigezi through Chief Nyindo that had been blockered to be part of Uganda in 1911. The stories of the famous Ntokibiri attacking the British on this hill, not forgetting the 14 days that the 100 locals took pushing and pulling a giant canoe from Lake Chahafi to Bwana island on Lake Bunyonyi over an elevation of 7000 feet through Echuya forest.
