A carved Swahili bed that tells the story of centuries of cultural exchange along the East African coast. Inspired by Indian and Arabic carving traditions, the intricate woodwork is paired with a bold contemporary yellow geometric rug, while handwoven baskets step in as an unexpected bedside table.

Traditional craft doesn’t have to mean traditional interiors. It’s all about how you bring the pieces together.

This is what we mean when we talk about layering a home. Traditional pottery techniques reworked into modern forms, bold woven baskets, painted ceramics and pieces that bring different African craft traditions together in one space.

Nothing has to match. The connection comes through color, texture and the hands and traditions behind each piece.

How many countries represented through handmade craft can you spot in this picture? 👀

This little corner of Timbuktoo Living brings together craft traditions from across the African continent.

Swahili-inspired carved wood, handwoven rugs, beadwork, natural fibres and bold patterns come together in one space. Different origins, techniques and traditions, layered in a way that feels collected rather than matched.

It’s at the heart of how we approach interiors at Timbuktoo Living. We mix pieces from different regions and cultures, with a strong East African and Swahili influence, creating spaces that feel warm, layered and full of character.

Welcome to Timbuktoo Living. 🧡

A space where the creativity of Africa comes together under one roof.

Timbuktoo Living brings together furniture, textiles, art, homeware and meaningful objects sourced from artisans and makers across the continent. Hand-carved wood, woven fibres, bold African prints, beadwork, recycled glass, ceramics and unexpected finds sit alongside contemporary pieces with a global tribal influence.

Our collection is layered, colourful and full of character. We believe the most interesting homes are built over time, mixing origins, textures, eras and stories rather than following a single look.

And Timbuktoo Living is about more than what you take home.

Indigo Bar and The Medina are part of the experience. Come for a browse, settle in with a glass of w**e, meet a friend, discover something you weren’t looking for and stay awhile.

From the artisans of Africa, with a global tribal influence.

At Timbuktoo Living, we’re always looking for pieces with interesting materials, strong craftsmanship and a story behind where they come from.

These plant pots combine natural horn with brass detailing, alongside a hand-carved wooden tray by Kamba artisans. Decorative strands of sea glass and bone add another layer of texture, all displayed on a table created using pieces of recycled glass.

Different materials, different makers and different parts of Africa, brought together in a way that feels collected rather than coordinated.

These are the kinds of pieces that make a home feel personal.

Available at Timbuktoo Living.

Our Baraza dining set brings the beauty of African craftsmanship into the heart of the home. Hand-carved wood, bold geometric details and mudcloth upholstery give each piece warmth, texture and character.

Layer it with handcrafted tableware, colourful textiles and pieces collected from across the continent to create a dining space that feels warm, lived-in and distinctly African.

Beautiful enough for entertaining. Made for everyday living.

We love to MIX THINGS UP around here!

Different colors, different textures, different styles and pieces from completely different places can absolutely live together in the same room.

In this little corner of Timbuktoo Living, we’ve mixed African wax print, embroidered textiles, carved wood, recycled glass, vintage-style pieces and a LOT of color. Somehow, it all works.

Don’t be scared of color or feel like everything in your home needs to match. Start with things you genuinely love and play around with them. Sometimes the combinations you wouldn’t normally put together are the ones that make a room feel the most interesting.

That’s pretty much how we approach decorating at Timbuktoo Living. A little unexpected, very collected and definitely not beige.

Our handwoven Bolga fans from Ghana are a perfect example of how color adds personality to a space. We love them displayed together like this, where all the different colors and patterns can play off each other.

Sometimes adding color to your home doesn’t mean painting an entire room or making a huge change. It can be as simple as finding a few handmade pieces you love and giving them a place to shine.
