Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust -VSPT

Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust -VSPT A non-profit organisation that connects Volcanoes’ luxury safari lodges to the neighbouring communities and conservation.

The Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust (VSPT) is a non-profit organization that undertakes specific community and conservation activities in and around Volcanoes Safaris Lodges in Uganda and Rwanda. The VSPT works both directly with the community and indirectly with the help of locally based non-profit institutions. The work of the VSPT fits with Volcanoes Safaris’ vision for great ape ecotourism

, which primarily aims to link conservation and local communities. The VSPT seeks to support specific activities that enhance the livelihood of local communities and in turn support the survival of the great apes. The objectives of VSPT are achieved through regular donations from Volcanoes Safaris Ltd who contribute a voluntary donation of $100 from every full cost safari purchased. The VSPT welcomes support towards the areas identified and will also consider other areas that could be supported, but due to
administrative limitations cannot accept individual sponsorship of a child in a school or community group, or manage specific donations that fall outside our main projects. We are happy to accept the supply of books and/or school materials to institutions that we are connected to, provided that all administration and costs connected with delivery are met by the donor.

The 45-acre Kyambura Wetland, part of the Kyambura Gorge Ecotourism Project, is a sanctuary for over 220 species of birds, mammals and reptiles.

The wetland was previously used as an illegal brickworks but has returned back to its natural state thanks to the conservation efforts of Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust (VSPT) and the local communities living nearby.

As seasons shift and species migrate to favourable locations, new species are regularly being seen. VSPT runs guide training programs in the wetlands to train local youth in wildlife and conservation.

Join Andrew, a graduate from the training program in 2022 and now a wildlife guide at Kyambura Gorge Lodge, on an evening walk through the wetland.

As part of their stay at Volcanoes' lodges, guest have the opportunity to particpiate in vital community and conservation projects and to share the lives of the local communities.

We believe that supporting sensitive, controlled ecotourism and creating a connection between lodges, local communities and great ape conservation is essential for the long term survival of these unique species.

The Batwa lived for generations alongside the mountain gorillas in the Virunga Mountains in Uganda, until their displacement in 1991 following the creation of Mgahinga National Park.

In response, the Gahinga Batwa Village was built by Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust (VSPT) in 2018, providing a permanent home for the Batwa community. Through a series of sensitively developed activities, VSPT has worked to support the Batwa people, ensuring their cultural heritage is preserved and helping them build sustainable livelihoods.
