Wildplaces Africa

Wildplaces Africa Our award-winning lodges are intimate, luxurious and unique. Service is gentle and discreet. Allow us to show you the Uganda we know and love…

We are one of the most established and respected safari operators in Uganda. The finest accommodation in Uganda's wildest places is found at our three luxury properties under the WILDPLACES AFRICA portfolio:
Semliki Safari Lodge (Semliki Valley Wildlife Reserve),
Apoka Safari Lodge (Kidepo Valley),
Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge (Bwindi National Park)

At Wildplaces we seek out the pockets of Ug

anda that still remain wild and secret. In these tracts of glorious wilderness we have built small, fantastically comfortable safari lodges. At our properties you won’t be jostling for space at the buffet table, you won’t be queuing with other vehicles for a glimpse of a lion or a herd of elephants. On our safaris you won’t be sharing a car with strangers or slavishly following a pre-determined itinerary. We hire from the local communities and are active in building community projects. Everything we do has conservation at its heart. Conducted by our talented safari guides in comfortable vehicles, our overland safaris combine luxury, style, service and authenticity to provide wonderful adventure, outstanding scenery and an unforgettable experience. THE UGANDA SAFARI COMPANY has been operating in Uganda since 1993 and we are well positioned to show you this fantastic place. We are one of the most established and respected safari operators in Uganda, and have some of the best negotiated rates for all of Uganda’s properties and excursions. Gorilla tracking, walking safaris, photographic safaris, birding safaris…cultural tours, hiking expeditions, fishing safaris, working holidays…we can do it. Whether you are here for a full safari in Uganda, or just visiting a lodge or two as part of a larger trip in Africa, let us share with you the Uganda we love...

Hippos emerging slowly from the water, moving through the shallows with surprising gentleness for creatures of such size. Along the Nile, their presence shapes the rhythm of the river itself.

Spend enough time by the water and the river will begin to tell its own story.

Uganda is a country of colour.

The deep green of rainforest after rain. The gold of evening light across the plains. Red earth beneath your feet. The soft blue of the Nile moving through it all.

Every landscape carries its own palette, shaped by season, light and life. Together, they create something impossible to forget.

Come and see the colours of the wild for yourself.

Travel can do more than take you somewhere beautiful. It can help protect it.

Every stay supports work that reaches beyond the lodge. Ranger support. Wildlife monitoring. Community partnerships. Long-term conservation efforts shaped over generations. This is not separate from the journey. It is part of it. WildPlaces Africa’s conservation model is built into the experience itself.

Travel in a way that gives back as much as it gives you.

The Nile does not simply run through this landscape. It shapes it.

It gathers wildlife at its banks, draws birds to its edges, and gives rhythm to life all around it. At places like Papa’s Camp and Kulu Ora, the river is not a backdrop, but part of the experience itself. Powerful, constant and alive.

Come and follow the river awhile.

What is your favourite thing about safari?

Is it the cats, moving quietly through long grass. The pull of water, where life gathers at the edge. The birds, filling the air with colour and sound.

Or perhaps it is something less expected. The time to reconnect. Meals shared in remarkable places. Stories told around the fire long after dark.

A safari is rarely defined by one moment. It is often a collection of many, stitched together into something that stays with you.

Tell us what calls to you most.

There is a certain kind of storytelling that only happens by firelight.

For generations, stories have been shared around the flames. Passed from one voice to the next, carrying memory, knowledge and history forward. This is how places are remembered. How wisdom is preserved. How the wild is understood beyond what is seen.

As the fire settles and night sounds gather, stories surface. Of lion sightings at dawn, old safari tales, and quiet moments. Around the campfire, time seems to slow. The wild is remembered differently here. More intimately. More deeply.

Stay a little longer after dark. Some stories are only told by firelight.

There are few things finer than a bath at day’s end, with the Nile moving quietly below and the wild settling around you.

At Kulu Ora, the copper bath is not just a detail. It is a place to pause. To reflect on the day. To listen as the river carries on into dusk.

Out here, even stillness feels part of the journey.

Soak in the moment. It tends to linger.

A good safari begins by packing simply. Neutral colours. Comfortable layers. A good pair of walking shoes. Binoculars close at hand.

Leave bright colours at home. Avoid black and dark blue, which can attract tsetse flies. Choose tones that belong quietly in the landscape.

And bring something harder to pack. Patience. Curiosity. Time.

Pack lightly. The wild will do the rest.

Strip away the colour and something else appears. Texture. Contrast. Form.

In black and white, Uganda feels timeless. A lion’s gaze sharpens. Forest mist deepens. The wild reveals itself in quieter ways.

Sometimes less allows you to see more.

Look closely. There is beauty in every detail.

Beneath a canopy of fig trees, where the Nile moves with power and purpose, Papa's Camp feels like a return to an older rhythm of safari. Quiet, intimate, and deeply rooted in place.

With just five tents along the riverbank, this is wilderness pared back to what matters. Lions move through these plains. Hippos gather in the water below. A habituated hyena den lies close to camp. And always, the river carries on.

Named for Ernest Hemingway, there is something of that old safari spirit here. Not nostalgia, but a sense of adventure that still feels alive.

Come for the wildness. Stay for the feeling of having found somewhere rare.
