It is located on the southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. It shares the boundary with the National Park and for this reason occasionally gorillas from Nkuringo Gorilla Group visit the lodge, so on a lucky day you can spot the gorillas in the lodge compound. Bwindi National Park has a total of 400 gorillas according to 2011 gorilla population census while the rest 480 mountain Gorillas are shared by Uganda (Mgahinga Gorilla NationalPark), Rwanda and Congo. Bwindi Backpackers Lodge is ideal for tourists tracking 6 gorilla groups where it is only 10 minutes drive to Nkuringo Gorilla tracking meeting point and 30 minutes drive to Rushaga the gorilla tracking meeting point for
Nshongi, Mishaya, Kahungye, Bweza and Busingye Gorilla Groups. The lodge caters for backpackers and middle range tourists where accomodation ranges from $7 to $70 full board.
