Kacheera Camp

Kacheera Camp is a wildlife adventure camp in south west Uganda only 25 minutes from Lake Mburo National Park.

The camp provides programmes for campers, students, volunteers and researchers.

Perfectly camouflaged and completely at ease, this Brown house snake rests quietly among the leaves, almost invisible to passing eyes, reminding visitors that nature at Kacheera Camp is always present, patient, and beautifully undisturbed.

The Brown house snake is non-venomous and harmless to humans, helping to control rodents naturally around our camp.

At Kacheera Camp, nature draws near when you stay calm and quiet. Take a moment to sit and simply watch. Warthogs wandering by, birds calling overhead, and the lake and hills stretching out around you turn even a brief pause into a truly memorable encounter with the wild.

Lake shore entertainment is never boring! Just watched a baby hippo literally roll over its mom while the rest of the hippo family was busting out insane hippo water antics And then, guess what? A Great Egret, African Jackana, wattled lapwing, Pied kingfisher and butterflies flew in, adding some extra magic in the air.

From our forest camera trap, we’re lucky to capture hippos, zebras, warthogs, banded mongooses, velvet monkeys, impalas, waterbucks, and bushbucks. We’re always happy to share with the camera whenever you’re camping, so you can find out who you’re camping with.

Paper made with hippo poopoo!
This summer, our KC kids’ handcraft fun involves using hippo poopoo to create their own paper through recycling. We collect from the bush, sterilise, and then make paper.

I had a wonderful Sunday evening, sat watching an impala herd up close.
It was exciting to see them show different behaviours, but one thing that really caught my curiosity was their diligence to keeping themselves clean before sunset.
Did you know that impalas have two incisors, loose in their socket that they use as a comb? And for areas hard-to-reach, they allo-grooming. This is why they are always clean.
