Just some late night thoughts.....
Saw the news that Anchor Down Crab House closed.
I don’t know everything they went through behind those doors, but I know this business.
I know what it takes to keep the doors open. I know the early mornings, the late nights, the invoices that go up every week, the nights you can’t find enough staff, the weeks you pour everything in and still come up short. I know what it costs the people behind the register and the people in the kitchen.
This industry is hard. Every owner I know is fighting something. Rising costs. Staffing. Consistency. Bad days that turn into bad weeks. We signed up for it. We accept it. But that doesn’t mean we have to celebrate when someone doesn’t make it.
What bothers me is the bashing. The comments that tear the food apart after the fact. The ones that compare. The ones that wait for a place to stumble so they can say “I told you so.” A negative comment on a closing post doesn’t fix anything. It doesn’t feed a family. It doesn’t pay a cook. It doesn’t undo a year of work.
How would you feel if someone showed up at your job and posted every mistake you made that week? How would you feel if they compared you to the person down the street and said you weren’t good enough?
We’re losing something online. The HUMAN part. The part where we support each other, give advice without tearing someone down, and remember there are real people! Owners, employees, kids at home who are attached to that sign on the building.
We all have bad days. We all have weeks that don’t look like the highlight reel. Building a good culture inside a restaurant or any business is one of the hardest and most important things we do, and it still doesn’t guarantee tomorrow.
Let’s get back to supporting each other. Let’s get back to being positive.
If we don’t, this becomes the trend! more places close, more people get piled on, and the community gets smaller every time.
Don’t celebrate someone else’s loss. Lift each other. Help when you can. Be honest when it matters. Leave the cheap shots out of it.
This community is better when we act like it.
Take care of each other. LOVE♥️
