Our Story

Ammi Wright who had made a fortune in lumber built Saravilla on the occasion of his daughter, Sara’s, marriage--his hope was that a beautiful home would encourage her to stay close to him in Alma (his former mansion is a block distant). That lure did not work except for Sara’s use of the house as a summer home and she sold it shortly after her father’s death. The building went through many uses and became a bed and breakfast about 25 years ago.

Gerry Shields and Roland Labadan purchsed Saravilla in 2014 after having operated other inns in Massachusetts, Virginia and North Carolina. They and their staff strive to provide guests with a bed and breakfast experience in an elegant setting that is also noted for its comfort, service and outstanding food. Come see for yourself!
