Big Bear Lodge in Alpena Michigan is a Mom & Pop Lodge, where you are welcomed by Louie & Hanlie. It is situated on the beautiful sunrise shores of Lake Huron, straight across from Mich-e-ke-wis Park on US Highway 23 S. The cozy and clean bedrooms have 1950's style pink bathroom tiles and all the usual amenities. There is ample parking space and a garden, picnic area and children's playground. All NON SMOKING rooms with housekeeping EVERY DAY, NO PETS allowed and No smoking MA*****NA anywhere on the premises . We do NOT have a website all inquiries tel +1 989 354 8573.

The Alpena area is forecast to hit peak fall color this week. If you’re out and about enjoying nature’s display, save some appreciation for the area’s conifers, too!

Lumber was one of Alpena’s early industries. Alpena’s history as a lumber town was memorialized in 2018 with a History of Industry sculpture created by Sharon Smithem of Charlevoix and local artist Thomas Harmon. The sculpture consists of a clay tile mosaic depicting white pines (Michigan’s state tree) along the Thunder Bay River framed by cedar posts. It is located on the bi-path near the Alpena Community College campus. The riverside pathway is lined with various trees, making it an ideal relaxing stroll to enjoy both the fall color and public art display.
