The aspens at Bear Necessities Lodge are finally starting to turn golden!

While much of Angel Fire has already seen some beautiful fall color, the mature aspens around the lodge are taking their time.

We love watching the colors change right outside the cabin, and the trees are looking a little more golden each day!

These two bucks were caught locking antlers in the front yard at Bear Necessities Lodge!

We think they were arguing over who gets to stay at the lodge next. 😂

Well, this isn’t something we see every day! 🐾

Around 8 AM, our cameras caught a bobcat making its way behind Bear Necessities Lodge.

While bobcats and mountain lions live in northern New Mexico, sightings around the lodge are rare. We’re much more accustomed to seeing mule deer, elk, turkeys, and even bears.

You never know who might stop by next!

If it’s your first trip to Angel Fire, here are 5 tips to help you adjust to the altitude and make the most of your mountain getaway!

The Village of Angel Fire sits at approximately 8,400 feet above sea level, with the ski resort base at 8,600 feet. Many mountain cabins are even higher.

If you’re visiting from a lower elevation, a little preparation can help you feel more comfortable during your stay.

1️⃣ Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water before your trip and throughout your stay. The mountain air is dry, and it’s easy to become dehydrated.

2️⃣ Take it easy your first day. Give your body time to adjust before jumping into strenuous activities like hiking, skiing, or biking.

3️⃣ Limit alcohol at first. Alcohol can contribute to dehydration and make adjusting to the elevation more difficult.

4️⃣ Get plenty of rest. Plan a relaxed first day and allow time for your body to adjust to the thinner mountain air.

5️⃣ Listen to your body. Headaches, dizziness, nausea, or unusual fatigue can be signs of altitude sickness. Don’t ignore symptoms, and seek medical attention if you’re feeling unwell.

At Bear Necessities Lodge, we’re at 9,712 feet, so we always encourage guests to plan for the elevation.

The goal is to spend less time feeling the altitude and more time enjoying everything Angel Fire has to offer.

5 Ways to See Fall Color Around Angel Fire 🍂

If you’re planning a fall trip to Angel Fire, there are plenty of ways to get out and enjoy the aspens.

1️⃣ Ride the scenic chairlift at Angel Fire Resort for mountain views and fall color from above.

2️⃣ Drive the Enchanted Circle toward Red River or Taos for beautiful scenery and changing aspens along the way.

3️⃣ Take a UTV tour with Bobcat Pass Wilderness Adventures through mountain terrain and groves of aspens.

4️⃣ Explore Carson National Forest by ATV with Angel’s Outback Adventures or on horseback with Roadrunner Tours, where you’ll travel through areas filled with aspens.

5️⃣ Drive through the Valley of the Utes. From El Camino Real, turn onto Ute Valley Drive for one of our favorite fall drives close to Bear Necessities Lodge. The roads are lined with aspens, and you may spot elk along the way.
