Babcock House Bed and Breakfast Inn Historic charm. Shared tables. Glad and generous hospitality. At Babcock House, we welcome you not just as guests — but as friends.

My husband and I own and operate a bed & breakfast in central Viriginia, specializing in farm-to-table cuisine with food from our on-site garden and local suppliers. We have two boys, one dog and several chickens, hoping to soon be raising rabbits and bees as well. I enjoy fiber arts...knitting, crochet and most recently spinning... as well as being active in our church and small community. When I'm not hosting guests, I am busy homeschooling or helping Charles in the garden and trying to keep our house in order. Hospitality has always been a joy for me and I consider it a blessing to share with others.

Charles found this absolute monster growing under our oak tree after this weekend's rain. Nature certainly knows how to put on a show!

One of the fun things about living here is never knowing what we'll discover in the garden, under the trees, or growing along the edges of the property. There's always something new to investigate.

Some surprises are worth waiting for. 🤍🌿

Look what greeted us in the Annie Laurie Room today! Our Amazon lily has decided it's time to bloom, and what a beautiful flower it is.

There's something special about those little unexpected moments in an old house—when a familiar corner suddenly gives you something new to admire.

Apparently, we have a budding innkeeper in the family. 😂❤️

Yesterday, our eight-year-old son, Euan, invited one of our guests to play chess. I knew nothing about it until this morning, when the guest told me, “Tell Euan to keep up the good work. He kicked my butt in chess.”

When I asked Euan about this, he explained that he had also been coaching our guest on protecting his rook and not moving “Foolish Freddy” out. (Chess advice comes free around here, apparently.)

He genuinely loves talking with people and sharing the things he enjoys. And every now and then, that means a guest leaves with a story they weren't expecting when they checked in.

I think I'll let him keep working on his hospitality skills. But I may need to remind him that not everyone is ready for a chess lesson! 🤣

Not every traveler needs a suite! Sometimes you just need a comfortable place to rest, a good breakfast waiting in the morning, and a little room to get things done.

The Rebecca Room features a full-size bed, a desk for catching up on work, and a mini fridge for keeping drinks and snacks close at hand. It’s a favorite option for business travelers visiting Appomattox, but it’s just as nice for couples looking for a simple, cozy place to stay while exploring the area.

With its floral wallpaper, antique furnishings, and historic Babcock House charm, the Rebecca Room offers a comfortable home base for your time in town.

We think breakfast deserves a little slow motion. 🍓❤️

Homemade biscuits, homemade strawberry jam, and absolutely no reason to rush.

It's the simple things that make breakfast at Babcock House special. A little something made from scratch, served warm, and meant to be enjoyed one bite at a time.

Now, the only question is: do you eat the biscuit while it's still warm, or sneak a taste of the jam first? 😉

A little glow-up for the front walk! ✨

We have a new lamppost at Babcock House, and we're loving the warm welcome it gives our guests as evening settles in.

It's funny how one little addition can make a place feel just a bit more special. Now we're looking forward to seeing it light up the walkway on those cool fall evenings.

Sometimes it's the little things. ❤️

Three half-bushels of apples came home with us from Saunders Brothers Farm Market yesterday. 🍎 That means applesauce, apple butter, and dried apples are in our future!

Thankfully, Charles believes in working smarter, not harder. His apple-peeling method involves a drill and a peeler—and a whole lot less hand-cranking. 😂

There’s a lot of work between picking up a bushel of apples and filling the pantry, but we love having homemade goodies on hand. And around here, if there’s a way to make a big job easier, Charles will probably find it!

Now, if you'll excuse us, we have a lot of apples to process.

One of the things we love about being here is how many great day trips are right outside our door.

From the inn, head over toward Nelson County for a morning hike, then make your way to Saunders Brothers Farm Market . Grab something good, enjoy the scenery, and then stop at Blue Mountain Barrel House for lunch and a b**r.

It’s an easy day out from Appomattox—less than two hours of driving total—and you get a little bit of everything: trails, local farms, good food, and a Virginia brewery.

This is the kind of day we love recommending to our guests. No big itinerary. Just get in the car, explore a little, and see where the day takes you.

Then come back to the inn and relax. That’s a pretty good day around here. ❤️

This is one of the things we love most about being a bed and breakfast. ❤️

For the second night in a row, guests who didn’t know each other when they checked in asked if they could sit together for dinner.

And just like that, strangers become friends.

There’s something special about a small dining room and a shared table. You come for a night away, sit down with people you’ve never met, and leave knowing a little more about them than you did when the evening began.

Maybe that’s one of the things that makes a B&B different. It’s not just a place to sleep—it’s a place where people sometimes cross paths in ways they never expected.

We sure do love our guests. 🥰

A new dish made its way onto the table tonight: paprikash. ❤️

Tender beef, plenty of paprika, a rich, savory sauce with peppers and onions from our garden, homemade pasta, and a little sour cream to finish it off. The kind of dish that makes the whole dining room smell amazing before it ever reaches the table.

We’re always trying something new in the kitchen, and this one might have earned a permanent spot.
