Lace Up Your Boots: Hiking Right Outside Our Door🍃

Arch Cape sits at the heart of some of the Oregon Coast's most beautiful trails. Here are our favorites to get you started.

The Arch Cape Loop
Start right in town. At low tide, you can walk through the Arch Cape Arch, passing sea caves and dramatic headlands before heading inland through lush Sitka spruce and hemlock forest into Oswald West State Park. Check tide charts before you go — timing is everything.

Cape Falcon Trail
The local favorite. This moderate 4.5-mile out-and-back in Oswald West State Park gains 567 feet of elevation and takes most hikers about two hours to complete. The trail winds through old-growth coastal forest before opening up to sweeping views of Smuggler's Cove and Neahkahnie Mountain. The headland at the end is one of the best viewpoints on the entire coast.

Short Sands Beach
All the scenery, less effort. Cape Falcon and Neahkahnie Mountain frame this sheltered cove, blocking the ocean winds and making it a favorite for surfers and picnickers.

Neahkahnie Mountain
For those who want to earn their views — a 3.9-mile hike with 1,050 feet of elevation gain and some of the most dramatic coastal panoramas in the Pacific Northwest.

Early summer is one of the best times to return to the coast. The weather stays mild, the beaches feel open, and seasonal events begin filling the calendar from Cannon Beach to Astoria. If you’re looking for a last-minute getaway, we still have some availability mid-week! The perfect time to slip away during the week for fewer crowds on the Coast.

The Cannon Beach Sandcastle Contest

June 19 through 21

This annual event transforms the beach into an outdoor art show, with teams creating detailed sand sculptures along the shoreline. Guests often spend the morning watching the artists work, then explore downtown Cannon Beach afterward.

June 26 through August 8

The summer theater season at the Coaster Theatre Playhouse brings a classic Sherlock Holmes adventure to Cannon Beach. Ken Ludwig’s Moriarty follows Holmes and Dr. Watson as they track one of literature’s most famous villains through twists, mystery, and fast-paced comedy. It is a fun choice for a summer evening in town, especially paired with dinner and a sunset walk before the show.

Astoria Sunday Market

Every Sunday throughout the summer, downtown Astoria fills with food vendors, local artists, live music, fresh flowers, and handmade goods. It is an easy coastal drive from Arch Cape and a great excuse to spend a full afternoon exploring Astoria’s waterfront.
