One of the Hamlin county storm spotters on Poinsett contacted me and they have been having some discussions about tonight. This was passed on to me for the potential for severe weather. The noon model runs continually confirm the types and timing of storms for our area. We’d like to get as much heads up for lake people as possible. If you’re able to post on the LPA social media a heads up of tonight weather. You can use these pics or share the NWS Aberdeen posts. The biggest concern, especially for the lake is possibility of STRONG strait line winds. 60mph+…….maybe 70-80 depending on how this storm makes its way here. Also a good possibility of large hail. Tornado is possible though my feeling is not necessarily by us. But preparedness by all for this event is key. Also reminder……Storm sirens are there for people OUTDOORS!!! You may not hear them indoors, so please, PLEASE do NOT rely on that for weather. We do set them off for high winds and tornado.

Our concern is always about safety of people. I text the camp and state park directly as storms approach always so they are in loop. We would want to make sure all others are PREPARED for tonight.

ORDINANCE 2026-1 AN ORDINANCE ALLOWING FOR THE OPERATION OF GOLF CARTS ON ESTELLINE TOWNSHIP ROADS WITHIN THE LAKE PARK DISTRICT OF LAKE POINSETT. THEREFORE BE IT ORDIANED, by the supervisors of Estelline Township of South Dakota and created this day as follows: 1. Purpose. The purpose is to implement the provisions of SDCL 32-14-13 to 16 and all acts amendatory thereto authorizing Townships with an unincorporated town may adopt, by ordinance, traffic regulations permitting the use of golf carts on a highway within its platted boundaries and jurisdiction. 2. Definition. For the purposes of this ordinance the term, golf cart, means a four wheeled vehicle originally and specifically designed and intended to transport one or more individuals and golf clubs for the purpose of playing the game of golf on a golf course. 3. Regulation. 1. Estelline Township hereby permits the use of golf carts on Township roads with in the lake park district of Lake Poinsett having a speed limit of 25 mph or less. 2. Golf cart must be insured. 3. The person operating the golf cart shall hold a valid drivers license. 4. Golf cart must display either a SMV emblem or a white or amber warning light. 5. Golf cart ordinance will be considered valid until revoked by Estelline Township. 6. Violation of any regulation is subject to prosecution as allowed by law. 7. As defined by SDL 32-14-15, the golf cart is insured and the person operating the golf cart in the municipality or township to hold a driver license and to obtain a permit from the authority having jurisdiction. The municipality or township may charge a fee for the permit. The ordinance may also require the golf cart to display a slow-moving vehicle emblem in accordance with 32-15-20 or a white or amber warning light in accordance 32-17.46. Spring Beach Clean-Up
Saturday, May 9
Meet at 9:00 AM @ Sorenson's Beach Access on Hwy 81
(West side of the lake, across from the Golf Course entrance)

We love clean shorelines and hope you do too! Trash left on the beach is unattractive and can create safety hazards for boaters, swimmers and aquatic life.
Come and volunteer to clean up the shoreline!
Meet at Sorenson's Beach Access - west side of the lake on Hwy 81.
Plans and team locations will be shared to ensure lake-wide coverage.
Trash bags and nitrite gloves will be provided. Feel free to bring "grabbers" if you have one.
Foster the next generation of lake caretakers by bringing the kids to join this fun, hands-on experience.
