Camp Sidney Dew

Camp Sidney Dew Camp Sidney Dew, founded in 1939, is Georgia’s oldest Scout camp. Several points of interest are within a couple hours’ drive from camp.

Located in the northwest corner of Georgia and approximately 20 miles north of Rome, Camp Sidney Dew offers the natural beauty of the Appalachian foothills. Founded in the late 1930’s, the camp is a unique blend of old and new, with several of the early structures still in use and many new structures in place or soon to be built. Located in the “pocket area” between John’s Mountain and Horn Mounta

in, the camp’s 650+ acres are bordered on the north by the Chattahoochee National Forest and on the south by John’s Creek. The camp’s rolling terrain offers an abundance of deer, wild turkey, and other wildlife, including a trout stream open annually to fishing from March 1st through October 31st. Visiting units can explore the Etowah Indian Mounds, Chickamauga Battlefield, New Echota Historic Site, museums and historic sites of Rome and Atlanta, and more. In short, Camp Sidney Dew is the crown jewel of a council which, though small, is committed to offering the best possible program for Scouts and Scouters of all ages.

The Northwest Georgia Council is pleased to welcome Nathan Austin to our Scouting family as the new Etowah District Executive. Nathan previously served as a District Executive in the Greater Alabama Council and began his new NWGA role on Monday, Aug. 24, 2026. Nathan and his wife Jessica have a 13 year old son, Baxter, who is currently a Star Scout in Troop 178, Mentone, Alabama. Nathan participated in a Philmont Trek last summer and he and Baxter recently attended the 2026 National Jamboree together. Nathan is Wood Badge-trained, experienced as a volunteer and professional Scouter and will be a valuable addition to our NWGA team! Welcome to NWGA, Nathan!!

October 16–18, 2026
Help our Cub Scouts follow the clues, discover the legend, and enjoy a weekend of adventure.

Scout Ops – Shadow Recon
November 6–8, 2026
Help create a challenging Scouts BSA weekend filled with teamwork, navigation, problem solving, and Scout skills.

Both events will be held at Camp Sidney Dew.

Whether you’re a youth looking to build leadership experience or an adult ready to lend a hand, we need a great team to make these weekends happen.

This is a great, fun event and we'd love to see NWGA well-represented. The Emperors are handling all ticket sales, patches, etc., but if you have questions after reviewing, contact the Rome Service Center at 706-235-5545. Thanks!

The Council Service Center has adopted new regular hours of operation, which go into effect this week. The new office hours for the Service Center and Scout Shop are now 9:00am-5:00pm, Monday - Friday, effective immediately. Thanks for your support and patronage!
