Fall is the easiest season in Asheville to travel with a dog. Bent Creek, Beaver Lake, the Parkway overlooks, and most brewery patios are all leash-friendly, and nobody here blinks when a dog walks into a taproom.

Our select first-floor suites are pet-friendly, and they're limited.

The River Arts District Fall Studio Stroll lands November 14–15, and 240-plus artists open their studios across the neighborhood. It's the biggest weekend the RAD does all year, and it happens directly outside our door.

October is a good month to work from somewhere else.

High-speed WiFi, a full kitchen, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a desk that isn't the same kitchen table you've been staring at since March. Free parking, so the car sits until you want the Parkway on a Friday afternoon. New Belgium is 0.1 miles away for when the day's over.

There's a furnace running 0.1 miles from your bed.

Small Batch Glass Company is a working studio, not a demonstration. Walk in on the right afternoon, and you'll catch Asher Holman pulling molten glass out of it, which is a better use of twenty minutes than most things you had planned.

It's a considerably more appealing stop in October than in July, for obvious reasons.

Most downtown Asheville hotels charge a nightly fee to park a car you'll barely use.

Ours doesn't. Parking at River Row is free and on-site, which matters more in fall than any other season — you'll want the car for the Parkway, for the corn maze at Eliada, for the drive up to Hot Springs. And you'll want to leave it sitting while you walk to South Slope.

Over a four-night fall weekend, that's real money back in the trip.

It was 54 degrees on the greenway this morning.

The French Broad Greenway is 0.2 miles from the suites, and it changes completely in October. The light comes in low off the water, the first mile is flat, and the whole path provides glimpses of the river as well as the studios and warehouses that make the RAD the RAD.

Twenty-plus breweries, cideries, and distilleries set up on South Slope on October 3, and the whole thing is free. Asheville Oktoberfest runs 1–6 PM; it's a little over a mile from the suites, and the smartest move is to leave the car where it is. Walk over, rideshare back.

Stein-holding turns out to be a spectator sport. 🍺
