Turkey day. Somehow we failed to take pictures of any desserts! this year, which means we missed seeing family, but we got to soak up nature, play as many games as we wanted, make the food we love, and avoid an eleven hour car ride (with the best of traffic).

Don’t trust a label in my kitchen: This “sugar” is now quick grits. Freezer bags that say “tomatoes 2019” may contain cubes of pesto from 2023. In recipes, I layer sticky notes of changes for my kitchen oven, my mom’s, and a few oldies from Grandma Bow’s oven, which has no numbers on the stove top. But when I pass you that recipe, I do not share my experimentation process. Bottles of spray liquid that say ant killer but are really bleach and vinegar waiting to ruin your favorite shirt. I am my mother’s daughter, so don’t trust the label system.

Bears are awake! Geez. Took the trash out and an hour later we heard the can topple. This is not our usual hood (adolescent we knew since baby) bear, unless it put on 100 lbs and grew 2” the few short months they hibernated this very warm winter. Big bear was still very scared by sound; I banged out a melody with the little endcap on the porch. Bang bang bang. It tore down my compost bin
