On the Blue Ridge Parkway today... leaves are close to full peak - but lots more beauty to come! This was taken at 2700' elevation, so even prettier as you gain elevation. So glad to have this beautiful part of Asheville open for Fall.

The Blue Ridge Parkway section from the Folk Art Center to Mount Mitchell opened up today! This is a beautiful drive and the leaves are already changing along the route, esp as you get to the higher elevations. The southern section all the way to the terminus at Cherokee is also now open!

Feeling a little ✨️spicy✨️ this Saturday!

Served up a guest favorite this morning, Flautas con Huevos. Full of scrambled eggs, fresh from our back yard flock, pork chorizo, black beans, green chiles, a little cheese, and a lot of love. Topped with roasted bell pepper crema, pico de gallo, and a scoop of guacamole. Served with our custom House Blend from .

Special thanks to Carly with .elevated.photography for these gorgeous pictures! More from our photoshoot with her to come!

Out with the old, Inn with the new!

Nine months after Helene, we have finally been able to install a new sign to replace the damaged one. Healing takes time, and this little bit has given us a great big push forward.

We have been feeling incredibly grateful lately! 💙

Oakland Cottage Bed and Breakfast recently received a Small Business Hurricane Recovery Grant from and , and it truly means the world to us.

When Hurricane Helene made landfall back in September 2024, our world was turned upside down. A massive white oak tree crashed into our roof, forcing us to close our doors. The damage to our roof led to even more issues inside, leaving four of our seven rooms exposed to the elements for weeks. No running water, no electricity – just like so many others in our area. Our staff spent the next few months being involved in our community, from volunteering at supply and meal distribution centers to opening our doors to our community as a workspace once wifi was restored.

While we’re still rebuilding, this grant has done much more than help us financially. It’s given us hope and reminded us that we’re not alone. The support from and has shown us that our community truly cares. It’s not just about the money – it’s about knowing we matter and that we have the strength to keep going.
Rebuilding has been slow, as the whole town is recovering, and we’re still seeing fewer visitors than we need. But with the help of the WNC Small Business Initiative, we’ve been able to push forward – continuing repairs, keeping our team motivated, and showing up for our beautiful town of Asheville and Western NC with all the heart we’ve got.

Small businesses like ours are the heart of our community, and we couldn’t be more thankful for this support that helps us keep moving forward. 🙏

A big "Hello! And how are you?" from Oakland Cottage!

Where to even begin. So much of our community has been absolutely devastated, and so many in our community have stepped up to help. It has been heartbreaking and healing at the same time to see all kinds of folks coming together. Our innkeepers and staff have spent these past few weeks dedicating their time to volunteering around town. It has been surreal to say the least.

Oakland Cottage officially has power, internet, and (non-potable) water back at our facility. We did experience extensive tree and water damage to two of our King Suites, and we do not expect them to be open before the end of the year. We are remaining closed until the boil-water advisory is no longer in effect, and are working with the city to get our facility up and running for proper food service as well.

In the mean time, we ask those of you who would still like to travel to North Carolina for our wonderful leaf season to please visit the surrounding towns who are open for travelers! They still need the tourist season for their local economies.

We will also be running a special on Gift Certificates! We are looking forward to starting 2025 fresh, and will be posting a special by the end of next week. A great way to support the Asheville lodging community right now is to get gift certificates for future stays.

We are still reeling and still in repair. But we are so thankful that our staff and animals are all safe and well. We can't wait to host you all again here in Asheville!

Thank you to everyone who has reached out! We are so incredibly sorry for not being able to respond to voicemail and calls. We are hoping to have enough Hot Spot internet for the next few hours to begin canceling and refunding reservations through October 15th.

Please EMAIL the Inn if you need something! Calls are still not consistently coming through. Thank you so much for your patience during this time!

Our innkeepers and their pets, and the rest of our staff, are safe.

We are devastated by the loss our community is facing. We have put out the supplies we can spare at our front drive, please take what you need.

We are canceling reservations for the next two weeks, and will reassess how long our closure will last after that. We have limited access to our reservation system and payment processing right now, but will do our best for refunds and credits and contacting guests. Our innkeepers phone is working off and on, and she is doing her best to reach out to everyone.

We are so sorry for everyone in Asheville right now. Stay home, and stay safe!

The Hard Times Trail Head to the Dog Beach at Lake Powhatan is another one of our innkeepers' favorite hikes with their dogs. Start at the parking lot and then follow the trail to the creek. Turn right at the creek, follow the trail to the first bridge you come to, cross it, and then turn right. Continue until you get to the human beach. The dog beach is just past that!

*This is also an easy, fun, and close to the inn trail for those without pups. We suggest you follow the trail completely around the lake for a quick and awesome hike.
