There is always something to learn here. The Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center gives a terrific introduction to our past and our environment. Many persons give lectures and meetings to share their special subjects from stewardship of the environment and sustainable food and agriculture, to health care and social issues, crafts and special local features of the lands and waters and their inhabitants. A delightful example is the Bird and Nature Festival that occurs during the birds' migratory season.

The communities on Chequamegon Bay: Cities of ASHLAND, WASHBURN, BAYFIELD, and the Ojibway Red Cliff and Bad River Reservations, round out life with good colleges, historic districts, indiginous cultures. Local Transportation: Leave your car at the motel and ride the BART Bus to Big Top Chautauqua, Washburn and Bayfield. (By prior appointment to Big Top Chautauqua - and at other times, know your schedules!). Bring your bicylcle: the nearby bike path takes you miles throughout Ashland and along the lake . Or put your kayak or sailboat in down the street for easy access to a lighthouse and Washburn. And if you love walking, hike the many beautiful forest trails.

So many possibilities!

-- Simple and clean. Coffee, mini-fridge, microwave, hairdryer, TV, Internet. Plus AC & ceiling fans if the lake breeze isn't enough.

-- Native shrubs, flowers and trees of the Boreal forest make afternoon shade and bring bird songs to your window.

-- No swimming "pool" , but the biggest fresh-water lake in the world just outside! Public beaches are within 1/2 mile (walk there on the bike path along the lake).

-- On this rocky little lakefront there is music and motion of the waves and breezes and the power and calming influence of the water. Sunset over the lake is yours.

-- No smoking applies in all rooms: a cleaning fee is charged for smoking in rooms.

--Pet coming along? We allow pets in a specific room and charge a $15 cleaning fee. Let us know, and get a room that hasn't had pets.

I can now be found at The Ashland community shelter volunteering with the homeless. I'm very glad to stay here in the community doing what I love to do. If anyone has shelf stable food, microwaveable or frozen food, and produce. Please feel free to drop off a donation of any kind to the front desk of the Ashland community shelter. We have a 21 room family Shelter. A shelter like this is very rare. We would like to see more community involvement. The shelves are bare.Thank you for all the support.
