Spring has arrived in Lithia Park 🌸

We wandered past this magnificent magnolia blooming along the path near the Japanese Garden yesterday – such a beautiful time to be in the park right now.

With the season shifting, more events are starting to pop up – Lithia Artisans Market every weekend, community gatherings, and yes… plenty of pickleball. You never know when you’ll come across an impromptu guitar concert in the Gazebo, either. (It's more often than you might imagine!)

We live just across from the bandshell in Lithia Park. Looking out toward the park – and just to the right – you’ll find a neatly rowed sycamore grove.

On quiet mornings, the light filters through those tall, pale trunks in a way that feels almost intentional… shadows bending and crossing over one another in a slow, silent dance. These trees were planted more than 100 years ago, as part of the park’s original design in the 1910s. Someone stood right there and chose that spacing, that rhythm, that feeling – never knowing who might walk beneath them a century later.

And here we are.

If you stay with us, we’ll happily point you toward this spot. It’s not flashy, not crowded – just quietly beautiful in a way that sneaks up on you.

𝗔 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁. 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸’𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿.

Usually our St Patrick's dinner table is full – daughters, partners, grandkids, laughter, and second helpings. But with the holiday falling midweek and most of the family hours away, it’s just Rick and me this year.

Still, the traditions continue. The soda bread is cooling on the counter, corned beef is slowly braising in the oven, and tomorrow morning’s favorite: Irish Benedict (toasted soda bread, Dubliner cheddar, corned beef, a poached egg, and hollandaise) will be on the breakfast table.

At the center of our St Patrick's Day table sits a small porcelain woman in a green Victorian gown. I found her years ago wrapped in old newspaper in my parents’ basement. She once belonged to my grandmother – or maybe even my great-grandmother – and she’s been on our St. Patrick’s Day table ever since.

Some traditions are big and loud. Others are small and quiet.

The first little signs of life in our new greenhouse 🌱

These tiny sprouts are French Breakfast radishes, just starting to push up through the soil. If all goes well, they’ll be crisp, peppery, and headed for the breakfast table here at Parkside Acoustic B&B in a few short weeks.

“Why grow radishes in a greenhouse?” you might ask.

Because our resident deer here will eat absolutely everything that isn’t poky, prickly, smelly, or fuzzy. 😄 The greenhouse gives these early crops a fighting chance.

There’s something magical about this moment – the first green after planting, the quiet promise of things to come.

Huge thanks to the Ashland Folk Collective for another season of feel-good music. Your dedication to bringing live performances to Ashland is such a gift. We love sitting on our front porch and listening to the concerts across the street – they always bring such a warm sense of community.

Cheers to the volunteers, musicians, sponsors, and everyone who made the 2025 season shine. We can’t wait to see what’s happening in 2026! 💛

The Festival of Light Parade lit up Ashland last weekend, and so did our hearts. ✨

Last year, we were brand new to town and still felt like visitors.
But this year was different. Standing in the Plaza, singing with thousands of neighbors as the lights came on, it finally felt like our town. Like home.

We’re so grateful for this community – and so excited to share its magic with our guests all season long. ❤️

Crater Lake National Park is only a 2-hour drive from our front door, but it always strikes me as a place that exists slightly outside of time.

My brother and his wife were recently in Ashland for a visit, so we took a quick late-season trip up the mountain – and boy-o, did it deliver. ❄️ 💙 When we visited, the lake was glass-still, perfectly mirroring the caldera’s edge. Peaceful, quiet, and simply breathtaking.

Apparently, we got there just under the wire! Typically, roads to Crater Lake close around the beginning of November and don't open again until May or June, depending on the snowfall. As we walked around the Rim Village, I was floored by how tall the snow gauges are! Rim Village is at about 7000 feet, so I looked it up and learned that the record snowfall there was a whopping 879 inches (73 feet!) back in the winter of 1932–33.

If you’re visiting Ashland in the spring, summer, or early fall, this iconic day trip is definitely worth the drive. ✨

I sat out on the front porch this morning, just after serving an early breakfast, and the sunshine on my face felt so warm and healing. As I turned my face to meet the sun, there were our wisteria leaves – in their full golden glory – hanging on for dear life and poised to fly on the next gust of wind. I had to capture the moment. 🍂 ☀️

Quiet mornings like this are one of the things we love most about this place, and one of the reasons we love sharing it with our guests. 💛
