The Gerardy Room honors the family who helped preserve McInteer Villa for future generations.

In 1969, George Lee Gerardy and his wife, Thelma, rescued the mansion from condemnation, restoring its original layout and beginning a new chapter in the Villa’s history.

Today, the space reflects the warmth of a lived-in family home.

As a veteran-owned business, the history of McInteer Villa carries a particular significance for us.

One of the people connected to the home’s history is Charles Donovan, a World War I veteran who lived at the Villa and died here on October 10, 1922.

In his memory, we made a donation to the National WWI Museum and Memorial in Kansas City.

We hope you'll join us in honoring the stories of the people who lived within the walls of the McInteer Villa.

We’re happy to play a part in keeping that history alive.

The second-floor ceiling at McInteer Villa was ready for a refresh. ✨

We replaced the old plastic tiles, some of which had begun to come loose, with copper tin tiles that bring warmth, texture, and Victorian charm to the space.

Copper crown molding was also installed to give the ceiling a polished finish.

It’s another step in our ongoing efforts to preserve the Villa for years to come.

Named for longtime resident Isobel “Goldie” Altus, the Goldie Room offers a glimpse into the life of the world-renowned violinist who lived at McInteer Villa from 1952 to 1969.

Today, the room serves as a tribute to her legacy, featuring replicas of her personal items, antique furnishings, a Victorian canopy bed, and a historic Victrola. Her original rocking chair remains in the house.

Did you know McInteer Villa was contracted to be built in 1889? However, construction began in 1890.

The home was commissioned by John McInteer, a successful Atchison businessman who built a prominent career in the saddle, harness, and leather trade.

By the late 1880s, McInteer had become one of the area’s most successful businessmen and began planning a substantial new residence for his family.

When he was unable to purchase a lot in Atchison’s exclusive old-money neighborhood, McInteer instead selected a highly visible corner of town and hired master contractor Owen E. Seip to construct his new home.

Completed in 1890 at a cost of approximately $14,000 (roughly $500,000 today), McInteer Villa became a striking example of Queen Anne architecture and an important part of Atchison’s architectural history.

More than a century later, the home remains a recognizable landmark, and its story continues to be preserved today.
