Labor Day Weekend is here!
Ranger programs include watercolor painting and a sandcastle competition at Don Carter, glow-in-the-dark minigolf at Hard Labor Creek, sunset cruises at Okefenokee, musket firings at Fort McAllister, a Hike through History at Tallulah Gorge, and Colonial Games at Fort King George. We have a few picnic shelters still available – meaning you’ll have your own reserved spot for barbecue and ice cream.

Pro Tips:
🌟This is always a busy weekend in the parks, so come early morning or late afternoon. If parking fills up, access may be restricted for a while.
🌟Make reservations now for NEXT Labor Day so you’ll have your favorite campsite or cabin.
🌟Leashed dogs are welcome in campgrounds and on nearly all trails.

Earlier today, Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites officially launched their “Georgia in Color Initiative”, with the goal of making color accessibility glasses available at every Georgia State Park and Historic Site. These specialized lenses from EnChroma help people with red-green vision deficiency distinguish certain colors more easily and, in some cases, experience hues they’ve never seen before.

While these glasses have been available to borrow for free at a few select parks, Friends of GA State Parks has made it their mission to make the vibrant colors of ALL of Georgia’s State Parks accessible for everyone to enjoy.

The launch event at Cloudland Canyon this morning featured an address from GA State Parks and Historic Sites Director Angie Johnson and Friends of GA State Parks President Damon Kirkpatrick. They spoke about how this new initiative fits into Georgia DNR’s accessibility transition plan, along with the Outdoors Beyond Barriers Initiative which aims to encourage, educate, and empower people of all abilities to connect with nature. Georgia in Color is a great next step toward making Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites the most accessible state park system in the country.

We would like to thank State Representative Mike Cameron, Executive Director of Alliance for Dade Sandy White, and Dade County Commissioner Don Townshend for taking time to attend the event today and support the initiative. We would also like to thank Park Manager Luke Daniels and the Friends of Cloudland Canyon for making the event possible!
