Campground Features

Once experienced, The City of Au Gres Riverfront Campground becomes one of the most popular family campgrounds for our campers. The Campground features a total of 109 campsites (33 on the river, 50 off the river and 26 with sewer access) and 2 NEW Rustic Cabins, all of which are available for daily, weekly or monthly rental. The Campground also houses the Lions Club Community

Building, which is available for daily rental and is a convenient resource for gatherings or a meeting location. Additionally, the Campground features a family picnic and day-use area with barbeque grills, playground equipment and restroom facilities. Fisherman will appreciate the Park’s convenient fish cleaning station and proximity to the State of Michigan boat launch located just minutes from the Park, which provides great access to Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron (via the Au Gres River) for world-class boating and fishing. For tips on this week’s hot fishing locations, just check with any of our staff, and be sure to inquire about upcoming fishing tournaments. Yes, the fishing is great, but we can also offer you the use of two baseball fields, two lighted tennis courts, a volleyball court, two lighted basketball courts, and kayak rentals. It’s also enjoyable to take a stroll around the Campground on the lighted Riverfront walkway, which can also lead you to the shuffleboard court and horseshoe pit available for your convenience. During the summer, take advantage of the many festivals and events taking place in the area, including the Classic Car Cruise and Show, plus weekly Music in the City free concerts beginning in June. Our outdoor activity isn’t limited to only warm weather months, so you can also take advantage of the Au Gres Area as a base of operations for ice fishing, snowmobiling and other winter activities in Arenac County, such as the Au Gres Chamber of Commerce Winterfest. We are a key destination for cross country skiing, ice fishing, and snowmobiling, so no matter your outdoor pursuits, come Celebrate our Seasons! Cabin Rentals

If you prefer, we have two comfortable rustic cabins built at the Campground in 2016 and available for you to rent. Each cabin can accommodate (sleep) six people and features twin bunk beds that incorporates a futon-style couch, plus a table, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, counter space for preparing food, electricity, an outside water faucet, an outside grill and fire pit, and an outside picnic table. It's Camper Appreciation Wednesday and since Labor Day Weekend is coming up we are focusing on our employees, who believe or not are all Seasonal Campers here at the City of Au Gres Riverfront Campground!!

Marcie & Dave started working at the campground a few months after our new manager came in 5 years ago and they have been with us ever since!! They came into camp in May of 2022 and thank goodness for us, never left!! Marcie is pretty amazing; works in the office, cleans bathrooms and cabins all while greeting everyone with a friendly smile! Dave is part of our grounds crew and mows all the grass at the campground and over in the city park (by the volleyball and pickleball courts)!! He does a great job and we don't know what we would do without either one of them ❤️!!

Rich has been a seasonal camper here forever and we joke that he planted "the tree of knowledge" at the campground!! For anyone who doesn't know there is a group of seasonal campers that sit around a tree they have nicknamed "the tree of knowledge"!! We are not sure what happens around that tree, but we hear you have to be invited to sit there!!!!!! Rich is our resident wood cutter and my goodness he does a fantastic job! Rich is the groundskeeper at the Riverside Park (where the Splash Pad is) and he also cleans the fish cleaning station there and the one at the campground, too!!

Deb is also a seasonal camper and works in the office, cleans bathrooms & cabins!! Deb is our go to Computer Techie girl!! EVERYONE goes to her if they need anything created in Excel, need bulk emails sent out, spread sheets...really ANYTHING that involves a computer she is our girl!!!!! Deb has really come out of her shell and we love that 💕; she has conquered her fear of cleaning other people's 💩 in the bathroom (lol-no one really wants to clean p**p) and we hear she will come out and get you if you breeze past the office without checking in!!!! YOU GO GIRL!!

Chris is the campground manager and Lisa helps out wherever she is needed. They came in 5 years ago after answering an ad on workampers.com. If anyone doesn't know what work campers are; work campers are usually couples where the campers usually put in a certain amount of non paid hours a week towards the site/electric and sometimes depending on the campground one person might get paid and the other camper volunteers their hours towards the site. There are tons of campers that do this to see many different parts of the United States that they might not otherwise be able to visit, because the standard commitment could be anywhere from 3-6 months. Our managers have met many retirees and even young people with families who are now doing this to travel and visit so many beautiful destinations!!!! Chris and Lisa originally set out to do this because they wanted to take their daughter who is handicapped on a journey to see all the wonderful natural beauty in every state!! They have almost completed that journey and have about 7 states to go!! They have said one of their most memorable journeys was driving to Alaska; stunning beauty at every turn and yes, they survived the "Alaskan Highway"!!

We are so grateful and blessed to have everyone of these wonderful people as employees and campers!! Their knowledge and love of camping is what makes this campground extra special and we would be lost without them!! ♥️ ♥️ ♥️

Campers...be careful when you come in...you just might end up working at the campground, lol 😂!! We truly are a family here and yes, we have been busier than ever this season and are looking for additional help next year either as paid staff or work camping to join our family!! Be sure to talk to Chris if you might be interested!!

Huron Pines is an absolute warrior when it comes to environmental preservation and restoration working along side The City of Au Gres and residents in the Au Gres Community it has been vital in implementing and restoring native plant species in naturalized gardens such as; "Bioswales" at the Riverside Park, "Rain Gardens" at Kinder Platz Park and Court Street. We learned a lot about the complexity of the gardens, the native species and the importance of maintaining the areas to keep the native species thriving!! Next time you are at any of the gardens take time to enjoy the beauty and read the educational signage located there!! It's very interesting and there is even a QR code on the signage on Court Street that will take you to educational information about all the different gardens in Au Gres!!
