An open letter from the director:
Dear Camp Gregory Community,
Summer camp is the one of the most special places in the world. I told the 2026 staff during training week that this is one of the hardest yet most rewarding jobs they will do, and I don’t know that they believed me until Friday afternoon. Summer camp changes you as a person for the better and not only do campers leave feeling deep connections with nature, friendship, and responsibility, but the staff do as well.
When the doors closed on Friday night, we cried, laughed, and had several group hugs. This year was a reminder to me of the impact that Camp Gregory has beyond the 5-week season. Parents sometimes reach out and invite me to school events or send a text around the holidays. I’ll see campers in public who only spent one week with us, but will be quick to share a hug and say hello. I especially enjoy when former camp directors and counselors will share inspiring memories from years ago. The connections we’ve created are deeply important to me and strengthen my passion for summer camp.
As we clean up and say goodbye, I am reflecting on all of the memories, friendships, shooting stars, and “firsts” that I once experienced as a camper, now finding new generations of campers. I want to thank you, families, for putting your trust and love into me as your camp director and Camp Gregory as a whole. Thank you to the camp Board of Directors and the 2026 staff for one of the best seasons I’ve ever had at camp. See you all next summer, or maybe sooner! 🏕️
