Hidden off a quiet road in South Austin is a lush little garden that feels like a secret. 🪴 Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden started as a coffee shop and grew into a sprawling green oasis with a koi pond, native plants, winding paths, and string lights glowing over the whole thing.

By day it is a genuinely great work-from-anywhere coffee spot, and by evening it flips into a relaxed beer garden with local brews, cocktails, and the excellent Leroy and Lewis barbecue truck parked on site. There is live music, room for the dogs and kids to roam, and enough shade and greenery to forget you are minutes from the highway. It rewards the people who seek it out.

Every summer night in Austin, the sky fills with more than a million bats.

Under the Congress Avenue Bridge lives the largest urban bat colony in North America, around 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats. At dusk they pour out in a living dark ribbon that can stretch for miles across the sky.

In a single night they eat tens of thousands of pounds of insects.

Crowds gather on the bridge and the lawn below just to watch them rise against the sunset.
