Newest board game based off one of my favorite movies arrived today - District 9. Just in time for some New Years play.

In front is the base game while in back is a large box of Kickstarter extras. An unboxing and thoughts on play thru soon.

Just arrived at Serenity AirBnB! From one of my favorite series of movies this is a complete Necromonger infantry uniform. As soon as the mannequin arrives will post a more in depth look of this costume.

This costume is from a 2009 film called Pandorum starring Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster. In the movie a partial crew awakens to discover the colony ship overrun by hideous creatures. In the movie these creatures are called “Hunters”. Here at Serenity AirBnB we acquired one of the Hunter costumes from the film.

The main part of the costume is a one-piece neoprene onesie that zips up the back. The costume has been painted to look like bare, bruised skin that has never seen sunlight. Over the front a foam appliance has been bonded on to simulate a semi-emaciated look. Also attached at various points are a more solid applique simulating heavy skin damage to include boils, scarring, etc.

The “bare feet” are hard rubber appliances glued to a pair of sneakers. They were then painted to match the “skin” of the neoprene costume. The appliances here were in two pieces to aid the foot in flexing for safety.

Over the costume are clothing comprised of a rubberized cloth. Adorning the clothing are bits and pieces of cables, screening, etc. While properly stitched much of the clothing has rough stitching as an overlay to give it a crude look.

The sash is composed of numerous pieces of cable, wiring, piping, etc. This has been hot glued or zip tied to be held together. The “bones” of the sash are made of a semi-flexible rubber which was then painted.

The lower arm “blades” and covering are glued onto a custom made forearm base. This base is slightly stretchy being held together with Velcro. The Hunter “cloth” are then wrapped around being held together with Velcro. The blades are made from a semi-flexible rubber.

The spear is made of various plumbing parts (mostly) that have been cast in resin, glued and painted. The tip is made from flexible rubber for safety reasons.

Allegiance Costume

So we have been closed down for the last few months due to the virus. As prepare to open back up for our great guests we have been busy acquiring additional props and costumes.

One of our recent acquisitions was a full costume for the character Romit in Allegiant (the final movie of the Divergent series). This is the red Fringe costume and is easily screen matched. The costume is rare in that it came with all drones, the head band, control glove and stunt rifle.

Pants and jacket are custom made. The quality is excellent with the jacket even being lined. Knee and elbow guards are attached extremely well. Both pants and jacket are tagged “Romit”.

Head band still lights. The side is held on by magnets so battery replacement is easy. One interesting part is that they covered most of the clear acrylic with black tape leaving just a small area to light up. To keep the band on the actors head small pieces of velcro hook are attached - the hooks would lock into the actors hair.

Drones on the back are cast resin. They are held in place by magnets imbedded in the drone dock attached to the jacket back. The drones themselves have small pieces of steel glued on.

Drone control glove is simply an Under Armor glove. The glove had some of the fingers cut off with the edges sewn. Boots are also unmodified Under Armor.

Other costume pieces are a standard black t-shirt and black military web belt.

Stunt rifle is a heavy urethane cast off a hero. The camo area is actually hand painted- brush strokes can easily be seen. All electronic areas are laminated thin cardboard glued in place.

Here at Serenity_airbnb we received today a monster of a prop replica - a studio scale Powerloader from Aliens made by Hollywood Collectibles Group. ⁣⁣

This beast arrived in 3 heavy boxes. One box had the base, one the main body and the last arms, comm antenna, and various additional parts. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This prop rep has been scanned from the stop motion unit used in the film. The loader is tall at about 33 inches from the base bottom to the top of the comm antennas. It is also heavy being made primarily from polystone. ⁣⁣

Putting it together was fairly easy. Only the arms and right side hydraulic tubes had a bit of trouble being attached. Going slow got everything together with nothing breaking. ⁣⁣

The loader securely mounts to the base. To allow one to look at the loader the base rotates which was a nice touch. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The prop rep also came with a large blueprint on thick cardboard. It is suitable for framing. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Pictures include unboxing, various shots of the completed prop rep, the blueprints and finally a shot of the actual 33 inch miniature during filming. ⁣⁣

This update from is something I look for in prop replicas when possible- studio scale!⁣
⁣
This week I began working on the ID4 alien attacker. As I recall this is cast off a pyro unit from the film. ⁣
⁣
So far I have sanded down/filled the seam lines around the fiberglass shell. Dremeled out the cockpit window as I have a lighted cockpit to install as well. On the bottom the hole for the fx green screen pole was drilled out. Finally the hatch to access the interior was ground down to fit snuggly into the body recess. ⁣
⁣
The final picture is of a studio scale Narcissus that will be the next project. Currently I am waiting for the lit cockpit for this to be completed. ⁣
⁣
Additional studio scale models sitting on my workbench is a TIE bomber, a B-wing, Millenium Falcon and an A-wing. Any thoughts on which I should build up next?⁣
⁣
And as normal as these get done they will go on display here for guests to enjoy!⁣

This just in at Serenity_Airbnb - screen used tusks form an orc shield from the movie Warcraft. These would be attached to the VX shield frames for filming. These horned shields were used in the valley ambush sequence. The horns are made out of dense foam, are 2 1/2+ feet in length and as thick as my arm. ⁣

The props for this week come from the film “Underworld: Awakening”. They were acquired at a screen used prop auction. Shortly they will go out for mounting then display. ⁣⁣⁣

These props are used during the scene where Dr Stephen Lang injects Quint with the Lycan super-serum. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Syringe/Needle (Hero) - The needle came with a plastic cap over the “needle”. The needle itself is solid and spring loaded allowing it to retract into the syringe barrel. This gives the illusion it is piercing skin. ⁣⁣⁣

The trigger is also functional. When pressed this creates a ratcheting effect that creates the impression the syringe is being depressed. ⁣⁣⁣

Antigen Super Serum Bottle - One of the bottles seen on the tray. This is marked as albumin saline but is most likely water with some isopropyl alcohol added to kill bacteria. ⁣⁣⁣

Antigen vaccine Protocol Prep Page - Taken from one of the many notebooks, etc in the lab. Interestingly enough the page is fully written as if to explain the drug, its effects, and references the film as it talks to Subject 0, transformational body increases, and so on. It is not simply gibberish as I have seen with some written prop material. ⁣⁣⁣

This week we finally received the screen accurate M314 motion tracker from the film Aliens. This particular prop replica is from Hollywood Collectibles Group. ⁣
⁣
The prop is made off a cast of the Kango rock drill casing and Hama slide viewer that was the base of the original prop. I was very pleased to see that the various sliding mechanical portions did indeed slide! No static sticker or punched plastic! Was very happy to that level of detail. ⁣
⁣
The tracker does make the sound of the tracker as well as the piercing beeping as the xenos close in. On the screen the pulses as well as the xeno locations are displayed as they get closer to you. The sound and visuals are an accurate representation of the onscreen scene. ⁣
⁣
The unit is painted in brown bess just as the pulse rifles were. During filming the brown bess ended up looking OD. As this was the HCG exclusive prop rep it also came with a screen accurate sling. My only quibble is I wish it was slightly distressed to look as if it had been used versus the clean showroom version, but that is just a personal preference. ⁣

Here is the unboxing of the KS Shadowrun Sprawl Ops board game. This is chock full of extra exclusives in a massive box. ⁣
⁣
Fully foiled boards representing various cities, foiled Nuyen tokens, KS exclusive coin (can be used as a first player token), 5 & 6 player expansion and cooperative expansion. ⁣
⁣
While we have not played it yet the rules are really simple. However like chess how one interacts with the board, build your teams and run your missions is complex. ⁣

We had a great time this weekend at Greater Austin Comic Con!

Got autographs from Ray Park and Michael Biehn. These will go up on the autograph wall here at Serenity_airbnb.

The missus and I cosplayed Saturday. I was my Sith character (Darth Mauls grandfather, Darth Senile) while the wife was her Jedi librarian, Leeda Tykosia. Plenty of pics taken and received. Especially happy to have pics taken with the Central Texas Droid Builders and one of my fave Captain Jack cosplayers.

Sunday we went mundane in order to help the 10 year old granddaughter with her first cosplay. A Soulwalker involving the use of stilts and crutches.

A close second to the granddaughter was meeting Ray Park.

That man was bar none the best celebrity I have ever met. He took his time with all of his fans to personalize the meet and greet, the way he interacts with kids was amazing, and he even twirled our lightsabers! He loved my Darth Senile story of being Mauls grandfather (he even autographed his pic to "grandfather")
