🐦 Who's flying through Florida this fall?
Did you know Florida is part of the Atlantic Flyway, one of North America's major bird migration routes?
Every fall, birds travel south through Florida, with some stopping to rest and refuel before continuing toward the Caribbean, Central America, or South America. 🌎
And here's something interesting: not every bird you see is just passing through!
🌿 Year-round neighbors: Cardinals and blue jays live in Florida throughout the year.
Florida also has a year-round resident population f Great Blue Herons (pictured), but they are also strong fliers and routinely move between feeding, nesting, and roosting areas. Some individuals may travel many miles in a day, and northern populations migrate into and through Florida during the cooler months.
🍂 Seasonal visitors: Birds like American robins arrive in greater numbers during the cooler months, while migrating warblers may stop in Florida during their journeys south.
🔎 Birdwatching tip: Keep an eye on trees and shrubs for smaller songbirds, especially during the morning when many are actively feeding.
