When we first took the leap of faith to purchase and restore Glen-Isle, we knew horses had to be part of the story.
As a little girl visiting Glen-Isle, the horses were one of the things that drew me back year after year. I would sit for hours watching them, dreaming about them, then return home to Texas and pretend they had followed me there.
When we came to Glen-Isle, we brought Newton and Gunner with us, and they helped rekindle that love. Guests would stop to visit them, laugh at their silly antics, and leave with stories to tell. Newton had a special gift. He somehow convinced every single person who met him that they were his favorite. Whether you stayed for a weekend or returned year after year, he made you feel chosen.
In 2023, we lost Gunner.
Last night, we lost Newton.
A fatty tumor had wrapped around his small intestine, and surgery and recovery were not realistic options. The kindest thing we could do was let him go peacefully.
We hope this message reaches everyone who loved our horses, and especially those who loved Newton. We know he loved each of you right back.
Over the years, we have rescued several horses from difficult situations and have often called Glen-Isle a Haven of Hope. Today, our haven feels a little quieter.
If Newton ever made you smile, please feed a horse a carrot or a peppermint today and say a prayer for our hearts as we mourn the loss of our best boy.
Run free, sweet Newton. Thank you for sharing your life, your personality, and your love with all of us. ❤️
