Fun Fact Friday 🐉💚

The Hine’s Emerald Dragonfly, once thought extinct, was rediscovered in Door County in the late 1980s. This striking green dragonfly favors swampy areas on the east side of the Door Peninsula. Populations are also found in Illinois, Michigan, and Missouri, making it a rare and fascinating part of the region’s ecosystem.

Horseshoe Bay Cave is thought to be Wisconsin’s longest cave, stretching about 3,000 feet which is over half a mile! Tours are limited, and there’s usually a long waiting list.
Caves like this can take thousands of years to form, slowly carved by water and natural processes, making each one a hidden geological treasure.

An Icelandic immigrant and electrical magnate, Chester Thordarson, left his mark on Rock Island. After discovering the island through family ties on Washington Island, he purchased nearly the whole island and built the stunning boathouse that still stands today.

Thordarson originally envisioned an even grander complex, but even as a standalone, the boathouse remains a fascinating spot to explore.

🚲 Happy World Bicycle Day!
One of the best ways to explore Baileys Woods Campground is on two wheels. From kids cruising around the campground loop to families riding between campsites, bikes are a big part of campground life here.

If you're visiting Door County, bringing your bikes opens up even more adventure. One local favorite is the Sunset Bike Route in Peninsula State Park, where riders can take in beautiful shoreline views and, as the name suggests, some incredible sunsets.
Whether you're exploring the campground or heading out for a scenic ride nearby, bikes are one of the best ways to slow down and enjoy the outdoors.
