You can watch the sun come up over the Sierra from your site, spend the day in Yosemite National Park, and be back at the lake before dinner. The park's South Entrance is about 18 miles up the road (roughly 30 minutes to the gate, another 45–60 to the Valley floor).

Bass Lake is an 8-minute walk the other way.
