It is with great sadness that I must announce the passing of one of Philpott Lakes long-term volunteers, Jeff Nowland, who hiked his final trail yesterday December 30th, 2023. He left this world with dignity and is now in a much nicer campground. Enjoy Heaven Jeff and save us all a campsite!

I had planned to travel to all of our USACE parks at Philpott Lake over the last two weekends, but personal obligations surfaced. I will do my best to get out to them all before seasons end so I can update this website with tons of great pictures of our recreational facilities and of some of our volunteers as they perform their work details. I plan to post a good description and lots of photos of each individual area including the Runnett Bag area. So please check back after Labor Day for updated pictures.Sorry for the delay. Thanks, Mary Richardson

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our USACE Volunteers at Philpott Lake and their families.

Greetings everyone. I would like to extend an apology to the viewers and to those who follow this page on a regular basis hoping to see some really cool pictures of volunteer life at Philpott Lake. I have had serious health issues for a while now that have caused me to be limited on activities. We have finally figured it all out and I am getting better every day, and starting soon I will be adding many pictures and posts for your enjoyment.

For anyone who would like to know, the peak for Fall colors around the lake is around October 14th.

Just figured I'd let everyone who lives in this area know that there were bears in our yard last night sometime during the night. There were several piles of p**p in our backyards and they all contained lots of bird seed. So apparently they are getting into bird feeders. If you have bird feeders outside you may want to bring them in at night.

Stopped at Ryan's Branch today for a bit of fishing. My rod and reel broke on me so I wasn't able to fish long and didn't catch anything, but I just want to say that I saw tons of fish and they were biting well. One guy said he caught 15 big Bluegill. Said he caught a bunch of Rock Bass too but threw them back because he doesn't like them. I love Rock Bass! Good eating. Didn't have my camera with me today or I could have posted pictures of the fish. They were very active. This was between 11 am and noon.

Greetings everyone. I'm so sorry that I have not been able to update this page in several months to introduce new volunteers or to say farewell to our volunteers who are completing their volunteer assignments. You can be sure that the USACE at Philpott Lake appreciates every moment of every day of service their volunteers provide. Those who know me know that I currently have a lot on my plate which is even preventing me from volunteering right now, but rest assured, I will return soon. I hope to go visit Volunteer Village in the next couple of weeks and make a trip to the parks to get some new pictures to post. I may even be able to follow the volunteers and those on beach watch to get some action photos. Check back on and off in the months of July and August both for new photos and an update on happenings at the lake. Remember to wear your PFD's while out on the water and enjoy beautiful Philpott Lake.

A wonderful lady named Christina that I met in the Vistors Center at Philpott Lake wrote this screenplay. It is finally coming out on DVD in the next month or two. Can hardly wait to buy it for my library.
