Friends of Seguin Island Light Station One of Maine's premier lighthouses is the second oldest in Maine and highest sitting 180 feet above sea level.

Seguin Island is 2.5 miles off the mouth of the Kennebec River, south of Georgetown Island, near Fort Popham & Popham Beach State Park. The Friends of Seguin Island Light Station, a not for profit organized in 1986 to maintain and preserve the Seguin Island Lighthouse and provide continuing public access to the island, is a member organization dedicated to keeping this part of Maine’s history, par

t of its future. The light has been in continuous operation for over 200 years. The Friends provide upkeep on all structures on the island, moorings for visitors, over 5 miles of trails on the island, historic markings and an on-island museum. For much of its history, Seguin has had resident lighthouse keepers and the Friends continue that tradition providing full time caretakers living in the keepers’ quarters on island from May to September each year. The organization also serves the mainland community educationally by regularly offering programs on the history of Seguin to area schools and groups.

Your donation dollars at work. After a week of repair and preservation, the tower's parapet work is complete. The tower is now open again. Thank you to all you donors. This project and the dock are the two major milestones in this year's strategic plan. We are on track for contracting the keeper's house windows for next year so we need your help. “Milli” is doing some amazing things for Seguin. The parapet contractors, had equipment that they said would have taken a day to get up to the lighthouse on foot. Milli and her trailer got about 2,000 pounds of equipment up to the tower in two loads. The result is one of the crew will be finishing up his work and returning to the mainland today. Milli took two days off the job resulting in the parapet being reopened sooner.

Parapet Work - As we've had posted on our website (seguinisland.org) on the "Seguin Happenings"(https://seguinisland.org/current-events/) page, Seguin's tower parapet railing is scheduled for maintenance repairs for up to two weeks. The time has arrived and a crew is landing on the island today (7/27) and the parapet will be closed. Visitors can still ascend the tower to see the magnificent First Order Fresnel Lens. Work is estimated to take one to two weeks. Please keep checking the "Seguin Happenings" page on our website for updates.

KEEPERS HOUSE WINDOWS REPLACEMENT CAMPAIGN - Our Keepers House Window Replacement Campaign is off to a good start, but not great. For those of you who have visited the island you may have notices the age and conditions of most of the windows. There are only two original windows in the Keepers house, The two that are sheltered under the porch. The rest were replaced by commercial windows back in the 1970s by the Coast Guard and have reached the end of their lives in Seguin's harsh environment. Winter has been finding ways to leak water into the house. With no one on the island for 6 months, we always return in the Spring to address the damage done by water infiltration. If you've replaced windows in your house recently, you've learned that windows are expensive. Friends of Seguin has learned that historically accurate to 1857 design windows which conform to Historical Commission requirements to be fabricated onshore needing to be transported and installed on an island 2 1/2 miles offshore are insanely expensive. Please help us preserve the Keepers House by giving what you can, no donation is too small (or too large (lol)). https://seguinisland.ejoinme.org/donations
