FOSILS Board of Directors met on October 2 to begin planning the 2027 needs of the light station. You can go to https://seguinisland.org/2027-strategic-plan/ to see the projects we are looking to undertake. The final step in our three year capital plan is the Keeper's House Windows and we are still short of funds. Without the funds to complete this project, all of our other 2027 projects will not be possible. Please help us proceed with preserving and improving this island with a contribution. Friends of Seguin Island Light Station hope you all had a fabulous Summer. We particularly hope you were able to get out to the island to see us. Next year will be quite different now the dock is installed. For those missing the "Treasure Island" landing on the beach approach, that option is still available. During this off-season FOSILS will be busy planning for the preservation projects for next summer. There is always so much to do to maintain the station. In addition to the dock, this year we expanded our camping area, installed a new leach field for the Keeper's House, ran new water lines from the well to the house, installed a sanitary water storage system to replace the use of 150-year-old cisterns in the basement, widened the trail up to the house, and discovered artifacts and rock inscriptions from Seguin's 200 year history. Next year, the Keeper's House windows are our big challenge and we need your help. We currently have enough money in our Capital Fund for 1/3 of the cost, but this project is vital to preserving the house. As 2026 drives to an end, please remember your island and what it takes to preserve this treasure.

A different perspective of our new dock. Most people like to visit Seguin by boat, hence the new dock. So sorry, but a landing strip is not in the plan. 🤣 Thank you Karissa for the unique perspective for all to enjoy.

Three years of planning, fund raising, and construction came to completion today. Still some railings on the land side and safety equipment to install this weekend. On to the next Seguin project - windows for the Keepers House. Please help us achieve this next milestone with your contribution. Thank you to all you Seguin Lovers!

Great News! The floats for the pier will be installed Thursday or Friday. But please stay clear of using it until our inspection and buy off is completed this weekend. We will tape off the gangway as a sign that the pier is not yet open. When we remove the tape blocking the gangway, that will be the sign that the pier is bought off and available to use. Remember, the pier is for drop off of your passengers. Please take your boat to a mooring and dinghy back to the dock. Thank you!

The pier is in place and the floats and ramps are on their way. Late in the season but if we get things in place and finished this year, 2027 will be started with a working dock system.

September here and that means the end of Summer. It also means we have set the date for the closing of the island for the 2026 season- September 16. While technically the island is always open to visitors, closing means our wonderful Keepers, Sara and Savannah will be leaving the island, the tower will be locked, our museum and gift shop will be closed, and our outhouse will be shut down and locked. Please plan accordingly. As you reflect on your visit(s) to Seguin, please consider the substantial work required to maintain this treasure and make a contribution the FOSILS so we can start our work planning for the 2027 season. Our dock will be open next year, we are hoping to start the replacement of the Keepers House window (but we are significantly short of funds to move to the next phase), we hope to start working on restoring the boat house and using it as a welcome and educational center. All this will require donations throughout our off-season planning phase. You can be part of Seguin-love with a donation.
