We thought we’d jump on the bandwagon with a few old photos and stories for day:

This is the Kelly family’s 50th year running the Coral Seas Motel. Before they were running the Coral Seas though they ran their first business on LBI in the next town over in Spray Beach. Thomas Kelly started Surfside 23 on 23rd street which is now part of the Spray Beach Hotel. The whole Kelly family lived on 23rd street and worked there, but unfortunately it was struck by lightning and burnt down. When Tom went to rebuild he partnered up with the Mancini and Pinto families and became partners in their hotel group which ran the Coral Seas, the Spray Beach, and another hotel that was located where the Bayview Condos are now in Beach Haven. They ran these properties together for years but in 1974 decided to split apart and that is when Thomas Kelly took over as the sole owner of the Coral Seas, and 50 years later it is still being run by the Kelly family.

Happy Labor Day! Thank you everyone for another successful summer which was our busiest yet. Just over a month left for our 2022 season, come on down and enjoy the more relaxed off season on the island. September is the best month to be here- less crowds, perfect weather, and the ocean is still warm 😎!

It’s January 1st which means you can officially start booking your rooms for this summer. A few tips to ensure easy booking:

1. As you all know we are old school and only take bookings by phone or email. In the off season email is by far the easiest way to book.

2. Even though reservations are open, the motel is still closed so we aren’t in everyday. Email your request and someone will get back to you within a few days.

3. Please include your check-in and check-out date in your email request as well as how many people are in your party (including kids/infants).

While there are some changes every year, the Coral Seas has kept the same feel and has been family owned and operated since the 60’s. The left photo is Jacqueline Monaghan as a baby with Joy back in the 80’s, and then to the right is Jackie today with her son Colin. We always like to look back and reflect on our generations of family members who have grown up here and run the place, but our favorite is probably when our guests come in and show us their pictures from the early days of the Coral Seas. So many of our guests have been staying here for decades, and we couldn’t be more thankful for all of our loyal customers. Thank you all for yet another great season, this Sunday is our last day open for our 2021 season!

Today we said goodbye to a local icon at the Coral Seas. A lot of our guests here are like family, but nobody fit into that category more than Elaine Frand.

She holds the record for the longest stay at the motel. Elaine would come and stay for 2 months every summer! 101 was her room, and she liked to sit outside and keep a close watch on the place. She greeted all the guests, yelled at anyone who was making a bit too much noise or was getting out of line, and bossed Pat around everyday 😂. She was basically the honorary grandmother for all staff and all guests. I’m sure many of you have sat and had long talks with her at the pool or on her patio.

We’ll miss you around here Elaine, thanks for all the great memories- 101 will always be considered your room!

Hurricane Isaias came through strong today and has taken the island’s power with it. It is currently lights out at the Coral Seas. We are hoping for power to be back tomorrow but the electric company has just notified that it could be several days until power is restored. We have reached out to all guests arriving tomorrow, but if you are coming this week please call for updates and to confirm we are running.

Until power is restored we will not be allowing any more check-ins....We are doing our best to get back running so you can all enjoy your beach vacations. We will keep you posted!
