24 days from the day I noticed the chrysalis on the porch railing, Madame Butterfly emerged! Yesterday afternoon. She’s remarkably beautiful. I could have watched her for hours…preparing for her flight.

There’s a little life beginning at Play Outside! The chrysalis survived me unknowingly throwing a rug over the railing today. I’m so glad I scattered some milkweed seeds a few years ago. 🤗

I thought those of you who only see the beach house in the summer might enjoy seeing how it looks in February! We’ve gotten loads of snow this winter. The last few days have been really windy which is creating some pretty awesome snow sculptures here!

Call it research… we’re in the midst of an island adventure in a beautiful place called Dominica. Not to be confused with the Dominican Republic. I chose what you might possibly call a glamorous treehouse to stay in. Hideaways of Tibay Heights -Made Cottage. Open air on two sides, perched on the side of a steep rainforest hill. Immersed in nature, very comfortable and peaceful.

Driving is a real adventure! As is the local driving style. 🫣 It’s customary to drive in the center of the road, moving over to get by one another. The locals seem to be very patient with tourists and I haven’t felt any road rage vibes. Tooting the horn simply means “I’m passing you”. Narrow mountain roads with cliffs and ditches on the sides keep me moving at just above a snail’s pace! The reward for the effort driving challenge is the spectacular view at every turn!

We’ve hiked to a waterfall, cruised up the Indian River in a boat rowed by a very informative guide. (Reminded me a bit of a largish Currach.) Drove down to the capital city of Roseau for market day and then down to the southern tip of the island. In search of scenic beaches on the Northern tip later today. Most of the shoreline here is rocky and difficult to access but extraordinary to see!

It’s fun to explore… but there’s no place like home!

10/10 around 10. The Aurora hasn’t faded completely, she’s still dancing up there! First round of amazingness out on the beach! Relaxing now, with a cup of mint /ginger tea and some blue corn chips. I’m incredibly comfortable in two pairs of snowpants, three layers on top, winter boots and hat. I’m determined to improve my night photography skills and I can’t think of a better place to do it! Brought my sleeping bag down too. Just wanted to share a couple photos before I turn off the tech and just enjoy the view!❤️
