Over the past several years, The Lexington Inn has had the pleasure of hosting guests for so many special occasions, but a large part of our guests come to celebrate weddings at our next-door neighbor, Deer Ridge at Lexington. 🤍

Along the way, several couples and wedding parties have chosen to use the historic charm of the Inn as a backdrop for their professional photos. We absolutely love seeing these beautiful moments captured within the walls, on the porches, and around a home that has stood for generations.

It means so much to us that, while celebrating the beginning of a new chapter in their own lives, these couples have also become a small part of the Inn’s continuing story.

We loved these photos so much that we decided they deserved a special place in the house. We selected some of our favorites, framed them, and created a wedding photo wall on our upstairs landing. Now, these beautiful memories can be enjoyed by future guests—and serve as a reminder of just a few of the special moments that have taken place here.

We’re grateful to every couple who has chosen The Lexington Inn to be a little part of their wedding weekend and their memories. 🤍

One of the ongoing struggles at Lexington Inn has honestly been the yard. Between nature’s creatures digging and tunneling, uneven areas that felt more like “potholes” while mowing 😅, thin grass in spots, weeds taking over in others, and grass that just never seemed to stay that lush green color… it definitely needed some help.

I reached out to Andrew Blackford at A&A Lawn Care to see what improvements could be made, and so far we’ve been really happy with the results! He helped fill in low spots throughout the yard, treated areas to improve grass health and thinning spots, and also treated to help discourage the critters from digging everything up again.

We’ve already noticed a huge improvement after the 1st and 2nd treatments, and it’s been exciting to watch the yard start coming back to life. 🌱☀️

A fresh coat of paint can make such a difference! 🤍

Some of the exterior painted areas at Lexington Inn were definitely starting to show their age, and the eaves were down to barely having paint left at all. It had been sitting on my to-do list for quite a while… but between a busy schedule and not exactly wanting to climb around doing all the high-up painting myself, it kept getting pushed aside. 😅

I did tackle painting the propane tank, but I left the rest to Alex with AP Paints. Between working around weekend guest bookings at Lexington Inn in May, he still managed to get everything completed.

I think the fresh bright white paint made such a huge difference and really cleaned everything up for the season! Check out our before & after photos 🤍🏡

Let’s be honest… life gets busy, and remembering to run out and water flowers constantly just isn’t practical for me. 😂

I learned that lesson after the first couple of years at Lexington Inn when I was nearly killing the flowers 🌺 I bought on what felt like a weekly basis. So, I finally embraced the realistic faux flowers route — and honestly, they keep the planters and flower pots looking beautiful all summer and well into the fall!

The more realistic I can make them look, the better, and this year I’m loving the red and white flowers paired with the spikes. They turned out so pretty ❤️🤍☀️

Our Adirondack chairs survived Midwest weather, guests, and Iowa seasons over the last few years… but apparently Lexington Inn’s woodland creatures REALLY enjoyed them too. 😂

We’re still trying to solve the mystery of what animal thought poly wood belonged on the menu. 🐿️🦌🐇🦝🦫 We knew the chairs were faded, but we weren’t quite prepared for the wildlife “customizations” added over the years. Has anyone else seen animals chew poly wood chairs this much?!

Needless to say, we upgraded for the season and are loving these vibrant new red chairs ❤️☀️ Perfect for morning coffee, evening wine, cozy nights around the fire pit with s’mores, and relaxing stays at the Iowa Lexington Inn.
