The American Goshawk is a large, powerful forest raptor that breeds primarily in the mature coniferous and mixed hardwood forests of the Upper Peninsula and the northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. Because they rely on large blocks of mature timber, they are sensitive to logging and habitat disruption. They are currently listed as a Species of Concern in Michigan. Thankful for Grass River Natural Area so these hawks have a place to live and nest.
