And that's a wrap on the HHC 2026 camping season. Tuesday, we bid farewell to our Jr. Camp staff and campers, and Mr. Sean caught one last magical sunset pic while taking a minute to take it all in from Valley Forge. Although Lineleader, smoke from Canada, and a few other factors kept us from posting much, the campers will all tell you what a great time they had this summer, and that is really what matters. So, as we get some much-needed rest and start a few construction projects, we will begin planning for next summer, and we cannot wait to see you all very soon. It's (almost) 6th Week! Arts & Crafts needs your help, please. If you are coming to camp next week and have some empty shoeboxes lying around, we will take them off your hands. Our Arts & Crafts competition is Cabin Dioramas, and we have no "cabins". You can drop them off in the basement when you go to the health screening on Sunday. We will take 1 or 10, whatever you can spare. Thank you so much in advance, and we can't wait to see everyone on Sunday for our last full week of the 2026 camping season.

We would like to thank all Week 3 families for your cooperation yesterday during a chaotic and not normal pick-up from camp. After consideration of the campers and staff, we made the decision to end Week 3 early for safety reasons related to the air quality. We realize this was inconvenient and unplanned. If you were one of the late calls on our list, we are very sorry. Every camper was picked up last night, and the staff was able to go home. As an immediate response to what we learned, we will be using the Remind app (used in schools) https://www.remind.com/join/hhc2026. This will be a fast and easy way to reach all families with announcements or notifications. We sincerely apologize to all families and campers for any stress or confusion around what happened yesterday. Every day we strive to make improvements while still keeping the magic of HHC alive.

Due to the air quality in the area, Hidden Hollow Camp has made the decision to end Week 3 early. To protect the health of our campers and staff, we are asking that campers be picked up today/tonight. We will not be holding the Hidden Hollow Hop tonight. Our phone lines have been busy, so there is no need to call first. We will have someone stationed in the Kiwanis building by the parking lot where you can check out your campers. Please spread the word to your friends, and we will see you soon. We are very sorry and sad to see the week come to an end this way and hope that you understand.

Update: Current air quality levels have doubled at HHC since this morning. 301 is categorized as Hazardous. We are taking precautions as we can. Being an outdoor camp with no AC, we are not able to stay completely out of the environment. Please know that you can call or email with questions or concerns. The health of our campers and staff is our priority at this time.

Regarding Week 4, we do not have plans to cancel camp next week. As we monitor the forecast and air quality, it is shown to be improving with the rain tonight and tomorrow, and next week's forecast looks sunny and cooler than this week, yeah! See you Sunday

Update: Our current Air Quality Index is 167 (Unhealthy) at HHC. We are limiting activity as much as possible today, but want to be transparent that we do not have air conditioning, and because of the high temperatures, keeping windows closed is not really an option. It is scheduled to rain this evening, improving conditions overnight. No campers or staff have experienced any issues or concerns related to the air quality at this point. Although we are one of the highest points in Richland County, we are experiencing the smoke from Canada and under an air quality advisory. We anticipate an improvement later in the day on Friday. We do not have air conditioning at HHC but are making efforts to reduce strenuous play and activity where we can. We will be back in the office at 7:45 am Friday morning.

If you have experienced frustration, confusion, or tech headaches while trying to use our new online enrollment application this season, we want to say two very important words: We’re sorry.

To be completely transparent, this new system has failed you, and it has failed our team. From duplicate invoices to critical forms vanishing into thin air, we know how incredibly stressful and time-consuming this has been for you. Please know that the staff at Friendly House and Hidden Hollow feel your pain deeply—we have been right in the trenches with you, battling these same system glitches every day. Because we are locked into this program for the remainder of the summer, we are doing everything we can to mitigate additional headaches and make things right.

Here is what you need to know about your paperwork moving forward:

• If you already completed the forms online: Our staff is manually pulling those forms directly from the system backend at hiddenhollowoh.childcareforms.com. If you successfully submitted them there, you should be all set.
• The Backup Plan (To ease your mind): If you want to be 100% sure we have what we need, or if you couldn't get the website to work, you can download and print the critical forms directly from our News & Info tab on our website at: https://friendlyhouseonline.com/?page_id=683 . If you are able, please print, fill them out, and bring them with you to check-in.
• No Printer? No Problem: We will have stacks of all critical forms printed and ready to go at camp check-in. We will help you fill them out on the spot.

We want to promise you one thing: The kids will not know a single difference. Once your campers arrive, the tech glitches disappear. Our counselors are ready, the camp is beautiful, and your children are going to have the absolute best, most fantastic summer experience at Hidden Hollow.
