As WNY Wilds grows into a regional tourism program, we saw an opportunity to create a brand uniquely focused on the work happening across the county.

Allegany County’s Housing Market Assessment and Development Strategy is now complete, and we want to thank the Allegany County Planning team for their hard work on this.

Housing is about more than where we live. It plays an important role in our communities, our workforce, our economy, and our ability to attract and retain the people who want to build their lives here.

This countywide study takes a closer look at our existing housing market and identifies the needs, challenges, and opportunities that can help guide housing development across Allegany County.

𝑨 𝒇𝒆𝒘 𝒌𝒆𝒚 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔:

🏡 Our housing stock is aging. More than half of the county’s housing units were built before 1980, highlighting the importance of reinvestment and preservation.

🏠 We need a broader range of housing options. The study looks at opportunities to better serve different stages of life, household types, and income levels.

👷 Housing and economic development are connected. Access to appropriate housing is an important part of attracting and retaining workers and supporting local businesses.

📍 Development needs to happen in the right places. The study identifies opportunities for targeted housing investment and development throughout the county.

This study gives us something we have been missing for decades: current, countywide data to help us better understand our housing market and make informed decisions about where we go from here.

The work now shifts from understanding the need to advancing solutions and creating opportunities for housing investment in Allegany County.

Working alongside surrounding rural counties, we’re excited to launch a collaborative regional tourism program that will showcase the places, people and experiences that make rural Western New York worth exploring.

By working together, we can reach more visitors, encourage them to explore beyond county lines, and tell a bigger story about the region we’re proud to call home.
